In Loving Memory

Maria “Marie” House (Spanevello)

Maria “Marie” House (Spanevello) died on April 22nd, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. Marie’s family was by her side as she left this earth and joined her father, Ray, in eternal paradise.

Marie was a lifelong resident of St. Louis, MO. She was born on September 10th, 1953 to a family with rich Italian heritage. Growing up on The Hill, Marie understood the importance of family, perseverance, and parmesan cheese. She spent her final 41 years married to the love of her life, Wayne. Marie’s two daughters, Leslie and Kristin, are her life’s proudest accomplishments. Being a grandmother to Lucy, Amelia, and soon to be born Lucas gave her the strength to fight for life. The deep relationship Marie had with her mother, Grace, motivated her to do what was necessary to extend Grace’s life on two occasions, allowing Grace the opportunity to see her great grandchildren grow, which was very important to Marie.

Marie held a career in various school systems as a supervisor and caregiver for young children before retiring to play the role of Grandma, which she played so well. An avid storyteller and reminiscer, Marie proudly shared memories of her family with astonishing detail with anyone willing to listen. A music lover, late night movie watcher, political news aficionado, health food enthusiast, family gathering facilitator, and above all, a lover of life, Marie enjoyed all her hobbies and interests most when she could enjoy them in the company of her family. Marie put her family members’ health and happiness first and always had their best interests as her priority, even when they did not realize it. As a spiritual Catholic, she found comfort at the end of her life’s journey knowing that her place in Heaven was waiting for her.

Marie is survived by her mother, Grace Spanevello; husband, Wayne House, children, Leslie Beard (Chris) and Kristin Cassidy (Andrew); brothers Steve Spanevello (Angie) and Mark Spanevello (Cheryl – deceased; Leona); grandchildren, Lucy Beard and Amelia Beard; 8 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Raymond Spanevello.

A visitation is scheduled at Kutis Funeral Home in Affton, MO from 6:00-8:00 in the evening on Wednesday, April 26th, 2017 and a funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherine Laboure in Sunset Hills at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, April 27th, 2017. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Marie’s life. Flowers and condolences may be sent to 10151 Gravois Rd. St. Louis, MO 63123, or donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in Marie’s memory at the following website: https://donate3.cancer.org/.
