(Johnna) Marnatti, Kim (Rob) Braddy and James (Kate) Marnatti. Dear grandfather of Seeger, Melina, Caroline, Sydney, Charlie, Jake (Caitlin), Ellie, Maggie, and Max. Dear son of the late Joseph and Josephine Marnatti. Dear brother of Joanne (the late Bill) Reeves, Jeannie (the late Dave) Wiss and Janice (Keith) Hirtz. Our dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend.
John was born of Italian immigrants, Joe and Josie, and was the 2nd oldest with three female siblings. Raised in the City of St. Louis and graduated Southwest High School in 1963. He was then drafted into the Army in 1966 during the Vietnam era and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1968. He was especially proud of making the rank of sergeant in 12 months..
He had a work hard play hard mentality. He had his first job in the restaurant business at age 11 and continued on to work at Rigazzi’s and Il Vesuvio’s. He received a college degree and continued his career at Boeing and then KV Pharmaceuticals. However, after he met his love, Faye Marnatti, they married and have been married 45 years in July, together for 49 years. They decided to open their own restaurant, Marnatti’s and did so successfully for 24 years, at which time John retired in 2001.
Aside from all the hard work, he loved to play at the Lake of the Ozarks. If he wasn’t playing with the kids, pulling them on skis, he and Faye were partying with friends.
John prided himself on his love of cars… too many to count over the years. He’d buy, sell, rehab and compete in car shows and won many trophy’s. He also received just as many speeding tickets with his passion for his hot rods.
John was truly a good man, a caring man and one who told many stories. You never knew if the stories were all true or just a little embellished.. But he was a good friend and always there if you needed him. He was a problem solver. He would always try to fix it, but if he couldn’t fix it he usually knew someone who could.
Mr. Marnatti was a member of Professional & Business Mens Club Of The Hill, V.F.W., and the Elks.
SERVICES: Funeral from Kutis Affton Chapel 10151 Gravois Road on Wednesday, January 3, 9:30 a.m. to St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church for 10:00 a.m. Mass. Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Justin Martyr Parish or to the charity of your choice appreciated. Visitation Tuesday 4 – 8 p.m.
We got to know John and Faye when we moved next door in 1991. He was a great neighbor and will be sadly missed.

We will greatly miss John, our good neighbor for over thirty years. He was one of the most open, caring, and sincere people you could ever hope to meet.

John was an amazing person. He always had a smile and looked sincerely happy to see you. He spoke to everyone, really made you feel like family. He will be missed.

I was privileged to have met John in 1978, with both of us sharing many times together with the Professional and Business Men’s Club of The Hill. John and Faye’s restaurant served quality food, had an excellent wait and bar staff through their dedication and hard work. They made the best Beef Wellington! John was always willing to do whatever needed to be done in all aspects of life from working to helping the PBM. I will forever remember the good times we shared. My condolences to Faye and their children.
As Maggie and I remember all the good tlmes, our thoughts and prayers are with you John, your lovely wife Faye and wonderful children and family.

Dear Kim and family, my wife Kim and I would like to express our sympathies to you and all your family at the loss of your Dad. May God give you comfort during this difficult time.
Worked with John and his dad, Joe, at Il Vesuvio in the late 60’s and early 70’s and he was a great guy. We also were regular visitors to Marnatti’s in later years and frequently saw him around Crestwood where he always had a smile for an old friend. Rest in Peace, John.
Faye I will always remember John as a kind gracious generous man. I always felt privileged to have met you both. I have fond memories of our times at Bella Sera. My condolences to you and your family on your loss.
My sincere condolences Faye for the loss of your sweetheart. I remember when Rich and I were dating in the 80’s and he brought me to the restaurant and bragged on Josie’s Cassata Cake. So many wonderful memories you have and I wish you much peace and love in the coming days and months. God bless you and the entire family. He shall be missed by many.
I remember John from Southwest High School. We had an Algebra class together and graduated the same year – 1963. My late mother and I dined at Marnatti’s restaurant on several occasions. There was a SW reunion at Pietro’s one year and I chatted with John for a few moments. He was a nice, friendly and polite man. My sincere sympathy to his wife, family and many friends. May you all remember the good times, the wonderful memories.
Faye Just went to Three Kings restaurant and saw John’s obituary picture…So sorry to see this.
