Vera Marusic, 76, peacefully passed away on July 5, 2025 after a valiant effort to overcome cancer.
Vera is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Ivica Marusic, and her beloved children, Mike Marusic and Irene Marusic (Russell Watters). She was a cherished grandmother to Lidia Marusic, Kyle Marusic, and Jack Watters, and step-grandmother to Jacob Watters, Jamie Watters, Bekah Watters, and Seth Watters. She is also survived by her twin sister, Ankica Galjuf, and many extended family members and friends who will miss her deeply.
Born in Prijedor, Vera immigrated to the United States at the young age of 19 with her husband Ivica and only a small suitcase in hand. She made St. Louis, Missouri her home for the remainder of her life. She was the heart of her family – known for her warm smile, selfless spirit and unmatched cooking, especially her pita, goulash, sarma and mystery noodle soup.
Vera found great joy in helping to raise her grandchildren, volunteering at St. Joseph Croatian Church, and spreading kindness in every small, thoughtful act. Her legacy is one of love, faith, and service to others.
A visitation will be held in her honor at KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL (10151 Gravois Rd., 63123) on Thursday, July 10th, 2:00 – 8:00 PM. Family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate Vera’s life and legacy.
I am deeply sorry for your great loss. Vera was an extraordinary woman filled with so much love. She made me smile every time I saw her. And she will always be my pumpkin
Teta Vera was a beautiful soul, inside and out, and she will be deeply missed by many—especially by the Croatian community at St. Joseph Croatian Church. May she rest in peace.
Love, John and Marinka Nekic

Our Kumi –
My mom’s best friend. Her twin. Her soulmate.
Our beloved Kuma – mine and Danny’s – and the most incredible auntie to us.
To my children, she was Baka II – and the world’s greatest chicken mystery noodle soup chef. Thanksgiving will never be the same without her… but I promise I’ll team up with Mišo and tackle those dishes like we always did.
My children love Mike’s children and Irene’s son, just as deeply as Mike, Danny, Irene, and I love each other. You, Ruzica, Kum, and my dad laid the foundation for those bonds. And we will keep showing up for one another – in your honor – always.
We love you, Kumi. Forever.
