McCarthy, Karen Marie (nee Kacich), age 60, entered into eternal life on June 1, 2023. Beloved wife of Timothy McCarthy; loving mother of Nicole (Brian) Ottis, Matthew (Kimberly) McCarthy, and Sarah (Zachary) Woolsey; cherished grandmother of Thomas, Henry, Samuel, Connor, Josephine, Elizabeth, and Kacey; dearest daughter of Thomas and the late Rose Kacich (nee Borgwald); dear sister of Gary (Barb) Kacich, Susan (Jim) Young, Tim (Jill) Kacich, and Tom (Joelle) Kacich; dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
The oldest of five siblings, Karen was a natural-born leader. Growing up Karen split her time helping with her family paper route, working a part-time job, and playing on her high school soccer team. Despite all her involvements, she always valued education and worked hard to maintain top marks. She was a proud graduate of Cor Jesu Academy and the University of Missouri.
Karen’s strong qualities of leadership, organization, patience, and her nurturing soul helped make her an extraordinary teacher. Over the course of her career, Karen taught 1st grade, kindergarten, and 3rd grade. She was a dedicated member of the staff at Green Pines and Blevins Elementary Schools before retiring in 2021.
Karen and her husband, Tim, had a wonderful marriage of over 35 years. Together, they raised three children and enjoyed seven grandchildren. The deep love and friendship Karen and Tim shared was apparent to all who knew them.
Karen had a strong intuition and sacrificing nature when it came to parenting her own three children. She cared about every detail of their lives, provided them with constant support and helpful advice. Karen’s favorite role of all was “Grandma.” Her love for her seven grandchildren was always her top priority. She loved spending time with them.
Services: Visitation at Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road on Friday, June 9, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral mass at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Catholic Church on Saturday, June 10, at 10:00 am. Services conclude at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
My deepest condolences to you, Tim, Matt, Sarah, Nicole and family. Karen was such a wonderful person who always had a warm smile, a big heart and cared deeply for her family, friends, and students . I enjoyed teaching with her and always knew I could rely on her to help out in any way. We spent many evenings across the hall from each other preparing lessons and getting ready for the next school day. My prayers for peace and comfort in the days to come as you recall memories and celebrate her life!

Karen was one of my best friends at St. Dominic Savio grade school. We had so much fun playing softball and soccer together. I helped occasionally with the paper route both on the truck and delivering to the apartments. What fond memories. We did not stay connected after grade school, but a friendship like hers lasts a lifetime in my heart. So sorry to hear of her passing. Prayers to all of her family.

McCarthy family,
Your mother, grandmother and wife was my daughter Jenna’s first teacher. She had Mrs. McCarthy in kindergarten for the 2006-2007 school year at Green Pines. I was also blessed to work along side of Karen as the P.E. teacher. I am so sorry for your loss and pray that she knows how much she was loved.
Peace be with you,
I met Karen while she was at Green Pines and was fortunate enough to teach alongside her at Blevins, where I came to consider her my friend. She was a dedicated professional, a committed advocate for her students and their families, and a trusted colleague and friend. Karen could occasionally get ‘fired up’ and it was always a reminder of the depth of her integrity, her drive to do her very best, and her passion for her work. My sincerest sympathy for your loss of this beautiful person who had a positive impact on the lives of so many.
So sorry for your loss! Enjoyed our time together at CJA.
I worked with Karen at Green Pines. She always had her students in her heart. A beautiful soul who touched the lives is so many.
