McCartney, Michael Kent

November 9, 1944 - March 1, 2026

Michael Kent McCartney was born on November 9th, 1944, in Decatur, Illinois to Ira and Marjorie McCartney. He returned home to heaven on March 1st, 2026, after a 2.5-year battle with esophagus cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Ann McCartney (nee Holtzman), son, Kevin Michael McCartney (Christy) daughter, Jamie Renee Biondo (Vince). He was a loving Papa to three grandkids: Gianna, Mia and Joseph. Brother to Steven McCartney (Maureen) and loving uncle, brother-in-law and step papa.

Michael was born into a farming community and grew up on his family farm in Cisco, Illinois. He received his bachelor’s degree in forestry but got drafted into the Military before he could pursue a career in that field. He served during Vietnam in Cam Rahn Bay in the Battalion of the 73rd signal group headquarters. When he returned home, he eventually moved to St. Louis to pursue additional school and certificates for computer programming. His first job upon receiving the certifications is where he met Bonnie. He held several jobs throughout his career in Computer programming but retired from GPX Communications (DPI, Inc.) in 2012. During his retirement, they enjoyed traveling, working on projects around the house and spending time with their grandkids. They married on July 25th, 1975, and in 2025 they celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Michael had many passions and hobbies. He loved to woodwork and build/fix things. He had a passion for reading—mainly westerns but he also liked historical non-fiction and suspense. He enjoyed going camping, which was a big part of his life. His travels included many national parks and historical places. In 2018 they took their first cruise to Alaska. Above all of this, his greatest devotion was his grandchildren. He loved them more than anything and was the best papa.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 9th from 4-8pm at Kutis Funeral Home: 10151 Gravois Road, St. Louis MO 63123 Services will be held on Tuesday, March 10th at 9:30am at Kutis Funeral Home with burial to follow at Jefferson Barracks.
