Sally McLean (née Horgan), aged 89, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026.
Born on October 28, 1936, Sally grew up in a vibrant household as the daughter of Captain Frank Horgan and Helen Horgan (née Fryberg). She graduated from Central High School in Duluth, Minnesota, and later expanded her skills at the Carey-Gaspard School of Business. Sally began her professional journey as a receptionist for Pickands Mather in Duluth before eventually moving west, where she spent many rewarding years working for the Central Tire and Rubber Co. in California.
Sally was a deeply devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her loving daughter, Stacey (husband John Gates); her cherished grandchildren, Devin (wife Leia) Gates, Dylan Gates, and Isabel (Izzy) Gates; and her brother, Pat Horgan (wife Marlys). She was preceded in death by her parents, Captain Frank and Helen Horgan; her brothers, Frank (Lorraine), Jack (Joann), and Mike Horgan; and her sisters, Lois (Chester Lee), Jean (Ray Johnson), and Mary “Dolly” (Ward Amundsen).
Sally brought joy to everyone she met. When she was younger, she loved spending her free time playing golf, and she has always enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and watching game shows. Known for her quick wit, everyone could always count on Sally for a brand-new joke whenever they saw her. Above all, she possessed a rare, compassionate heart and always offered a patient ear to listen to anything anyone needed to share.
In lieu of a traditional funeral service, the family will be honoring Sally’s final wishes by spreading her ashes in Lake Superior at a later date.
