Susan Metherd, born Lillian Susanne Wyrwich on February 7, 1943, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Delmar Gardens in St. Louis, Missouri.
Susan was born in St. Louis to Lillian and Adolph Wyrwich and was raised in South City alongside her nine siblings—Mary, Thomas, Laura, Nancy, John, Joan, Helen, Angela, and Nora—in a devoted Catholic family.
She married the love of her life, David Metherd, in 1966, and together they built a family grounded in faith, resilience, and service. They began their life together in Alvin, Texas, where they started their family, before returning to St. Louis in 1976. Susan was a devoted wife who lovingly cared for David for over 40 years following his diagnosis with multiple sclerosis, a testament to her compassion and unwavering commitment.
Susan lived a life centered on caring for others. She was an avid volunteer in the pro-life movement, dedicating much of her time and energy to causes she deeply believed in. She was a woman of many talents and passions: an artist, a gifted cook, and a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She found joy in the quiet beauty of everyday life, especially while tending to her gardens, birdwatching, and playing the piano. Known for her warmth and wisdom, Susan was a wonderful conversationalist and a trusted source of advice to all who knew her.
Susan is survived by her sons Jeffrey (Stephanie Henschen), Stephen (Jill Kozup), and Andrew (Jennifer Mishka); her grandchildren: Jeffrey’s children Melanie (Evan Asher), Alayna, and Maya; Stephen’s children Ian, Olivia, and Emily; and Andrew’s children Jimmy, Annie, and Ella; and her great-grandchildren Frances, Vincent, and Samuel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Metherd; her daughter, Jennifer Metherd; her parents, Lillian and Adolph Wyrwich; and siblings Mary, Thomas, and Laura.
Susan will be remembered for her selflessness, her strength, and the deep love she gave so freely to her family and community.
