John L. Morie passed away on July 11, 2026. Son of the late Mike and Mary Morie; beloved husband to the late Ruby Morie; beloved friend of Sharon Poole; cherished father of the late Monica Cordray and the late Keith (Mary) Morie; loving grandfather to Kyle (Amanda) Morie, Jonathan (Elise) Cordray, Karli (Matt) Lundergan, and Benjamen (Sara) Cordray; proud great-grandfather to Lillian, Logan, Dakota Ruby, Jonathan Jr., Madison, Carter, Hunter, Indiana, Maverick, Finneghan, Adia, Owen, Monroe, Kennedy, Ira Grace, Israel, and Leland; and a beloved brother to Dorothy, Larry, and Herb, uncle, great-uncle, cousin, and friend to many. John was also a proud United States Army veteran who faithfully served his country.
John was larger than life in every sense of the word. He was the heart of his family—a giant of a man whose presence could fill any room. You always knew when Grandpa was there because of his booming voice, contagious laugh, and bigger-than-life personality. He loved being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren, and some of life’s greatest moments were simply spent together with him. Whether he was telling stories, making everyone laugh, or sitting around the table with family, he made every gathering feel special.
He had an incredible gift for seeing value where others saw none. He could take something from a trash pile and, through hard work and creativity, turn it into something beautiful and useful. He taught his family the value of resourcefulness, perseverance, and never wasting what God had provided. He loved coon hunting and enjoyed the outdoors, where many stories and memories were made with those he loved.
More than anything, John loved deeply. He created a childhood for his children and grandchildren that was filled with adventure, laughter, and unforgettable memories that will be treasured for generations. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, generosity, resilience, and family. His voice may now be silent, but the memories he gave, the lessons he taught, and the love he poured into his family will continue to echo for years to come.
Services: Visitation at Kutis South County Chapel 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd on Saturday, July 18, from 10 a.m. until time of service 12 Noon. Burial St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery (Kimmswick). In lieu of flowers donations to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital
My dad got to know John back in their SE Missouri days more than 70 years ago, and he was largely responsible for our family moving from St. Charles to Arnold in 1968. Sadly, they are both gone now, but the good memories of the frequent family get togethers will remain forever. We had an annual Thanksgiving gathering of the Mories and the Westriches for many years, highlighted by great dinners, storytelling and playing tackle football. John was a man’s man and definitely part of America’s “Greatest Generation!” We are so sorry for his family’s loss … God bless John and his family and may he rest in peace … 🙏🙏🙏
Nice tribute to my uncle. I remember you and your family and can vision the good times together. I stayed with my aunt and uncle often in the summertime as a child.

John very much enjoyed our Music over the past Decade and beyond , He seldom missed any of the music and dances. His presence will be missed by all who attended over the years and all of the Musicians who have performed over the years.
