In Loving Memory

Morton, David J.

Morton, David J.

Baptized into the hope of Christ’s Resurrection on December 18, 2020. Gone too soon, he passed at 66 years of age. Beloved husband of 43 years to Sue Morton. Loving father of Nicole (Ramy) Weston, Meredith (Kyle) Bruno and David Morton. Treasured Paw Paw of Emma, Ellie, Carter, Taylor, Colin and Madison. Precious son of Frances Morton and son-in-law of Bobbie Hartman. Dear brother to Keith (Sam) Morton, Kim (Gregg) Sanford, Cheryl (William) Durrant and brother-in-law to Brian Hartman and Cathy Hartman. Cherished uncle, great-uncle, cousin, mentor and friend. He is preceded in death by his father, David E. Morton; brothers, Steve and Richie Morton; and father-in-law, Thomas Hartman.

Dave was born and raised in North County where he created many memories with his family. He developed lifelong friendships and excelled at playing many sports. He was a fierce competitor and a four-time national roller hockey champion. He never knew a stranger and loved to reminisce about his stories on the field and in the rink. He shared his love of sports with his children and grandchildren. He cherished the time he had coaching his son and “boys” in baseball, teaching his grandson to play roller hockey and spending hours at the fields watching his daughters play soccer and grandchildren play ball.

His 25+ year career with UNITE HERE International Union and Local 74 and two years as an International Vice President with UNITE HERE has left a lasting legacy in the St. Louis area and beyond. Dave was a champion for the rights of others, and he strived for justice and peace in our world. People came to him for guidance, and he did his best to offer support to those who needed it no matter their circumstance. He was looking forward to retirement in January where he could continue spoiling his grandbabies and spend time fishing at Table Rock Lake with William.

Dave’s greatest legacy was his love for his family and his tremendous faith. He adored his wife, and his children and grandchildren were his pride and joy! Dave was an active and devoted parishioner of St. Matthias the Apostle parish where he served as the President of the Parish Council and the Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus DeSmet Council #742. He made time every January for his annual White House Retreat with the men in the family.

While Dave will be missed dearly, he has left behind a legacy of tenacity, generosity, leadership, love and faith. He is truly irreplaceable and a hole will forever be left in our hearts.

Services: Visitation will be at Kutis Funeral Home 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd, St. Louis, MO 63129 on 12/21 from 4-8 p.m. (Social distancing guidelines are followed and a limited number of people will be allowed in the building at a time.) A Private Mass will be held at St. Matthias on 12/22 at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at 11:15am at Resurrection Cemetery. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.

  5. A tough negotiator, a relentless advocate for workers’ rights, and one the most decent human beings that I have encountered in more than two decades of working in the field of labor relations. My deepest sympathies for his family and anyone who was fortunate enough to have Dave as a friend.

  31. Sue and The Morton family,
I will always remember my friend and colleague, Dave Morton! He was the greatest! I remember some 22 years ago when I went on my first long term assignment out of town, when I returned home there was a note on my refrigerator with his home number, pager number, and office number, that read” call me if you need anything!” signed Uncle Dave. That was for my girls. They are 35 and 45 today and he is still their Uncle Dave!
