In Loving Memory

Muckler, Carole (nee Hookway)

August 20, 1936 - August 1, 2026

Carole Muckler, 89, passed away peacefully following a brief illness on Saturday, August 1, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Carole moved to St. Louis as a teenager, where she would meet the love of her life, Richard F. Muckler, Sr. Together they built a beautiful life, raising five children and creating a home filled with love, laughter, and countless adventures. Carole and Richard shared a remarkable marriage, one marked by devotion, friendship, and unwavering love. He preceded her in death, but their legacy lives on through the family they cherished.

Carole was the proud and loving mother of Rick Muckler (Tammi), David Muckler (Sandy), Cindy Cunningham, Doug Muckler and Cheri Suddarth (Mark). She was a devoted grandmother to Josh James (Natalie), Steven Santoyo (Tierney), Casey Muckler, Alex Beck (Colin), Ricky Cunningham, Kaitlyn Shapiro (Andrew), Connor Muckler, Nick Muckler, Ryan Suddarth (Paige), Sarah Suddarth and Adam Suddarth.  She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy.

Family was the center of Carole’s world. Throughout the years, she and Richard created countless memories with their children through trips to the family river house, ski vacations, and travels across the United States. These adventures became treasured family stories that will be shared for generations.

An avid golfer, Carole remained passionate about the game throughout her life and was golfing until the time of her passing. The golf course was one of her happiest places, where she not only enjoyed the sport but also formed many lasting friendships. Carole seemed to make friends wherever she went, a testament to her kind heart, warm smile, and genuine interest in others. Those who knew her often remarked that she was simply one of the kindest people they had ever met.

Carole and Richard enjoyed splitting their time between St. Louis and their Florida home, embracing new experiences, maintaining cherished friendships, and continuing to make the most of life together.

Carole will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, grace, and deep love for her family and friends. While her presence will be profoundly missed, the memories she created and the lives she touched will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, and family that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who knew Carole honor her memory by spending time with loved ones, sharing a round of golf with friends, or performing an act of kindness for someone in need.

SERVICES:  Visitation at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church (9740 Sappington Road St. Louis, Missouri 63128) on Thursday, August 6, 9:30 a.m. until funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m.  Interment Resurrection Cemetery.

  1. Carole was my beloved cousin. I have great memories of growing up with her at family gatherings in Boston. Later in life we reconnected as neighbors in Ft Myers. We were able to gather with other cousins and family members and continue our memories. I will miss her so much as we do Dick. Her golf game was amazing. She loved the game and it showed. She was a genuine friend not just a cousin. Dearest condolences to her children grandchildren and great grandchildren

  2. Carole was one of my first friends at Kelly Greens, and became one of my best friends there for the past 10 years. We shared so many rounds of golf, and joined as partners at more than a few tournaments. We didn’t win often, but it was always a fun time and a bonus to come in the money. To say Carole was kind is an understatement. I never heard her complain, she always had a warm smile and welcoming manner when she met you. And I always knew when her kids were coming to town as she so looked forward to those visits and beamed with pride as she talked about family. Her passing is a great loss, and yes, she and Dick will live on through the legacy of their family.

  3. A life well lived and I feel so blessed to have been a part of her world. We had a ball together. She was and will always be a highlight in my simple life. You always beamed whenever you spoke about your husband or your kids, or their kids.

Carole Muckler is the epitome of a life well lived.
I have a photo of her covered in butterflies when we went to see them being released. They all went to just…..her.

  6. Carole was one of my dearest friends. We met her and Dick on the golf course in Florida and had many fun rounds of golf together. Carole always had a smile and her love of her family and life itself was inspiring. She was kind to everyone she met and had a way to make you smile no matter what was going on. Carole will be missed by so many but she is now reunited with the love of her life. I am blessed to have known Carole and to call her my friend.

  9. Carole,
You are a joyful and beautiful person. I met you playing golf at AnnBriar. We played a few rounds elsewhere as well. You had an incredible game of golf and inspire me to continue golfing even as age creeps up. You loved your family dearly. It was such an honor to get to know you, play golf with you but mostly to get to know your sweet personality and kindness. I’ll miss you and hope to see a little memorial placed in the memorial garden at AnnBriar in your honor.

  13. One of the earlier memories of Carole was when she asked me to be the flower girl at her and Richard’s wedding. It was all very exciting and beautiful. Later in life when I did visit she was always smiling and welcoming. She used to send me yearly birthday cards for the longest time. She missed a few years and then very recently, maybe last year, along came a card from Carole. She surprised me that she had remembered and I decided to call and thank her. I am so glad that I did. She was kind and and was loved and still is. Hers was a life well lived . Very well done, Carole. All my best wishes to her family.

  14. Carole’s passing has left a hole in many hearts that must now be filled with the great memories we have. She and Dick were good friends at Kelly Greens. After Dick’s passing, Carole’s strength and independence showed in everything she did, with her love of family, life and all good things shining through. She was out on the golf course as much as possible, with great bridge games, shopping trips, music, theatre and friends filling the gaps and bringing enjoyment to all who joined her. A glass of wine with friends always brightened her smile. She will be missed. Love to her family.

  15. Carole was our Dad’s first cousin (our Dad was the son of Helen Hookway and John Horack) and we can remember Dick and Carole’s visits to New England and to family parties at my parents home in Hull Massachusetts.
Carole loved Kelly Greens Golf Community in Florida so much! Years ago, Carole and her husband Dick invited my parents, my cousin Dori and her husband and my husband Ken and I to their condo at KG then to dinner at the KG clubhouse. It was a great and memorable time. Years later, remembering that first time at KG, my husband and I started spending our winters at Kelly Greens.
Carole was a kind, wonderful and classy lady who enjoyed life to the fullest and will be missed. Rest in Peace, dear Carole.
Sincerely, Maggie (Horack) and Ken Jones,
John Horack, Tom and Susan Horack, and Ed and Elisa Horack
