Muehlhauser

In Loving Memory

Muehlhauser, Geraldine A. (nee Haug)

November 21, 1936 - September 7, 2024

Geraldine Muehlhauser (Haug) departed this life in the early hours of Saturday, September 7th, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on November 21st, 1936, in St. Louis, MO, to Leona and Gerald Haug, Geraldine’s journey began with her family’s move to California in 1943, during World War II. There, she attended Benicia High School, where she met Raymond Sherwood, her first husband. They eloped in Reno, NV, shortly after graduation.

Geraldine and Raymond welcomed four beloved children in California: Jeff Sherwood (Sandy), Scott Sherwood (Debbie), Lori Winters (Christopher), and Steven Sherwood (Susie). They parted ways in 1969, but Geraldine’s nurturing spirit continued to shine brightly.

In May 1973, Geraldine married Fred Muehlhauser, who brought a new dimension of joy and love into her life. With Fred, she embraced two additional children: Charles Muehlhauser (Vicki) and Sue Funke (Kevin), further enriching her life with their presence. Geraldine’s remarkable ability to balance family, work, and enjoyment was a testament to her extraordinary character.

Her zest for life was evident in every facet of her existence—whether it was raising her six children, enjoying her lake house, traveling, or indulging in her passions for sewing, genealogy, and sweets. Geraldine’s vibrant energy and dedication were also reflected in her career. After a distinguished 30+year stint with the Federal Government, she retired in 1994. Her exceptional knowledge and unparalleled work ethic led to her being persuaded to return, a testament to her commitment and enthusiasm for her work.

Geraldine took immense pride in her role as a grandmother to Justin Sherwood (Jess), Katie Sherwood, Megan Sherwood, Christina Sherwood, Danny Sherwood, Allie Winters, Carlyn Muehlhauser, Jessica Sherwood, Nick Funke, Jackson Winters, and Kristin (Kody) Ford. She also cherished her great-grandchildren, Liam and Aiden Sherwood, and Elowen Sherwood, with another little one on the way. Her legacy of love continues to shine through them.

Preceded in death by her parents, Leona and Gerald Haug; her brother, Fredrick Haug; her nephew, Raymond Haug; and her granddaughter, Sarah Sherwood, Geraldine’s life was a testament to love, laughter, and a bit of organized chaos.

Throughout her life, Geraldine faced many challenges with courage and grace, and her final battle was no different. She fought a rare form of kidney cancer with extraordinary bravery and dignity, embodying a spirit of strength that will always be remembered.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 15th, from 4 to 8 PM at Kutis Funeral Home in Affton, MO. Services will be conducted at Kutis Funeral Home at 9:30 AM on September 16, followed by burial at Jefferson Barracks at 10:45 AM. A luncheon celebrating Geraldine’s incredible life will follow at Billy Gianino.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, honoring Geraldine’s commitment to fighting the good fight.

Geraldine Muehlhauser lived a life brimming with love, laughter, and adventure. She’ll be remembered not just for her vast knowledge and sharp wit, but for the way she made every day brighter.
