Verna Jo Mueller

Verna Jo (Jett) Mueller, 93, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020, in Wheeling, W.Va., from coronavirus after battling the disease in a Wheeling hospital.

Mrs. Mueller was born April 17, 1927, in Knoxville, Tenn., to Robert and Mary Lillian Jett. She moved to St. Louis at the age of two and was raised by her uncle and aunt, John and Cecilia Bachman.

She attended Notre Dame High School. She worked at Kresge’s Dime Store, the Waldheim stock brokerage and the medical office of Dr. Joseph A. Mueller, who she married Nov. 20, 1954. Dr. Mueller preceded her in death in 2006.

Mrs. Mueller was the dear mother of Jeanne Marie Watts, the late Joseph Arthur, III (Pat), Dr. Karl Joseph (Dr. Cindy), Robert Edward (Cheryl) and Michael Joseph (Anne); dear grandmother of Jane (Steve), Cindy (Brad), Will (Heather), Sara (Patrick), Kristie, Karl II, Christopher, Jessica, Lucas (Heather), Jacob, Portia, Sami (Clay), Rachel (Michael), Meredith (Scott), Joseph IV, John and the late Thomas; great-grandmother of Levi, Lenna, Audrey, Sidney, John, Calvin, Steven, Benjamin, Louis, Molly, Claire, Abby, Ava, Lilly, Olivia, Max and Amyah; and great-great-grandmother of Eliza. Mrs. Mueller was preceded in death by her 11 brothers and sisters.

She was a lifelong Catholic, a long-time parishioner of St. Raphael The Archangel Church in south St. Louis, Queen of All Saints Parish in Oakville, and St. Michael Parish in Wheeling, W.Va. She moved from Oakville in 2016 to Wheeling where she lived with her son Karl and his wife Cindy.

Mrs. Mueller was an avid boating enthusiast and loved to fish, even holding a long-time record for muskie in Lac Courte Oreilles in northwest Wisconsin. She consistently out-fished her children on bass trips to Table Rock Lake in southwest Missouri. She also was the reigning family Canasta champion.

Family and friends will dearly miss her. Arrangements were handled by Kutis South County chapel. Private graveside services are planned at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery. Memorial Masses are preferred or donations to charities of your choice.
