In Loving Memory

Mullen-Morrison, Karen Jean

On February 11th, 2023, Karen Jean Mullen-Morrison, loving mother, caring sister, and devoted friend, passed away from heart failure at age 62. Karen was born June 1st, 1960 in St. Louis, Missouri and lived much of her childhood in Hannibal, Missouri before returning to St. Louis. She graduated from South County Technical School in 1978 and thereafter pursued education in areas such as accounting and taxes. Karen worked at Southwestern Bell as an Operations Specialist for more than 20 years. Post-retirement she pursued a number of interests and occupations from information systems to individual and business tax preparation.

Karen had a green thumb, always choosing the right flower or shrub to plant for the season. She always loved working outside to plant and care for something that would grow into something beautiful. Karen also expressed her love through cooking, creating vibrant dishes or tweaking a recipe that she would share with friends and family. She was always there for her loved ones, with an infectious smile, sharp wit, and indomitable spirit.

Karen was preceded in death by her grandmother Bertha Lawson Hibbs, mother Betty Jean Lawson and father Charles “Socko” Mullen, and is survived by her son Brad Morrison and his wife Malerie Bulot, James Reid who was like a son, her sisters Naomi Kutz and Sande McDaniel, brothers Dennis Mullen, Ed Mullen, Charles Mullen, and Michael Mullen, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Missouri Botanical Gardens Butterfly House at 15050 Faust Park, Chesterfield Missouri between 5pm and 6pm on March 4, 2023. An informal gathering will occur at a venue to be determined afterwards.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Karen’s name to one of her most beloved charities, St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
