Murphey

In Loving Memory

Murphey, Arthur Lloyd “Art”

Arthur “Art” Lloyd Murphey, 65, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly at home on March 16, 2022.

Art was born in Logansport, Indiana to the late Lloyd & Esther Murphey.  He grew up with his sisters Patricia and Bonnie, and dog Pierre. As a teen, he loved spending his time running cross country and riding his bike around town. As he got older, he attended Lindbergh High School and went on to become a Diagnostic Auto Technician with Dobbs Tire and Auto Centers for 39 years.

On March 24, 1974 he met Debbie Murphey, soon to be the love of his life. They fell in love and were married September 23, 1977. Within 5 years they started a family complete with Chris and Jason. As a family they loved watching the boys play sports, going to Disney World, attending scouting events, and particularly a family trip to Chicago. Art frequently recounted going to Philmont with each of his sons and their accomplishment of attaining Eagle Scout. Being a kind and dependable father was of the utmost importance to Art and certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family.

He loved spending time with family (particularly spoiling his grandchildren), helping his sons in any way he could, meeting his friends for breakfast, woodworking, the occasional golf outing, and of course spending most of his time with his best friend, his wife (dinners, shows, concerts, tv shows, happy hours, travel, you name it). Art was a lover of rock music such as Journey, Boston, and Foreigner. You could find him listening to it in the car or blaring it at the family dinner table.

Art is the son of the late Lloyd (Esther) Murphey; adoring husband of Debbie Murphey (nee Rohs); proud father of Chris (Liz) and Jason (Laura) Murphey; loving grandfather of Noah, Elizabeth, Juniper and the late Amelia; dear brother of Bonnie McFalls and Patricia (Don) Gilbert; son-in-law of Carroll Rohs and the late Norm Rohs; brother-in-law to Pam (Bob) Borrowman, Lori (Paul) Rozanek; uncle to Heather Smith (nee Borrowman), Kristen Borrowman, and Lora (Daryl) Richards, great-uncle to A.J. Smith, Autumn Koremblum, and David Richards; and friend to anyone who crossed his path.

Visitation at Kutis Affton Chapel 10151 Gravois Rd 63123 on Wednesday, March 23 from 4-8 pm., then at Resurrection Lutheran Church (9907 Sappington Rd. 63128) on Thursday, March 24 from 9:00 am. until funeral service time at 10:00 am. Interment at St. Paul Churchyard Cemetery.

  1. I am heartbroken. Art and I had adventures being Scout Leaders together. Watching our sons grow into the men they are today. I will pray for the Murphy family. Much love Debbie, Chris, and Jason.

  3. With a broken heart, my prayers go out to the whole family. This will be a hard funeral to attend. Recently, saw Art who was showing us the latest cute photo pic of our shared Granddaughter, Juniper, on his cell phone. He was so proud of this little lady. As opportunities present, Lord willing, I will share with June what a nice man her grandfather was on earth. And, help June to remember that she too will see Grandpa Art face-to-face in Heaven when The Lord makes that happen in His wisdom. This isn’t over. But, for now Art is in the presence of not only The Lord of Hosts but also with his granddaughter, Amelia. ❤️
