Fortified with Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Irene Murphy, peacefully passed on September 18, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Born on December 31st, 1954 in Eisenerz, Austria, Irene immigrated through Catholic Charities in 1956 with her parents Frank and Helen Grill to St. Louis, Missouri. She grew up with her extended family and cousins in South City attending Holy Family and Mary Queen of the Universe grade schools where she formed lifelong friendships. She continued expanding those friendships at Norte Dame High School where she was loved by her classmates. During high school, she met the love of her life and soulmate of 55 years, Glenn Murphy. Married in 1976, together they raised their beautiful daughters, Angie and Kelly. As a family they involved themselves in school activities, youth sports, and traveling. During these years, Irene cultivated loving and lasting friendships through her involvement at St. Francis of Assisi parish where she continued to nourish her faith through bible study.
In recent years, Irene loved traveling and visiting with family and friends. Mostly, she loved supporting her 5 grandchildren. You would likely find Irene on the sidelines at soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball, and dance. She was known to be her grandkids biggest cheerleader.
Irene is survived by her husband Glenn Murphy, her daughters Angie Collins (Sean) and Kelly January (Ryan), her grandchildren Alaina Collins (15), Ella Collins (14), Elise January (13), Chase Collins(11), and Lucy January (11) along with uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. She will be remembered for her kind heart and infectious smile and will be missed by all.
Services: Visitation will be held at Kutis South County Chapel 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd., Monday, September 23rd from 4pm-8pm. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, September 24th at 10am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Entombment at Resurrection Cemetery to follow. Hi Irene was such a sweet and great friend. We met through Curves where she worked and I was a member. We always saw each other at church at St Francis.
RIP Irene 🙏 you will be truly missed.
I’m in shock, so sorry to hear about Irene. Doesn’t seem possible. We will see you at the services. If there’s anything you need, let us know. Love you guys.
I knew Irene from Holy Family and St. Francis. She had told me I was her patrol leader at Holy Family, though I don’t remember. I remember she was always so sweet and friendly. She leaves a beautiful family and I’m sure many memories. You will all be in my prayers.🙏❤️ Sharon Samson Hingle
I knew Irene from Brownies and Girl Scouts at Holy Family parish. When I moved to St. Francis of Assisi, I found Irene again at our parish. So sorry to here that she passed away. Please accept my sympathy!
There are 2 memories I have of Irene, one involves her kindness for others and the other is Glenn’s love for his soul mate and beloved wife.
At the Lake she was so patient with the kids when she and Tom would help the younger kids learn to ski. Her efforts were not in vain.
Also, the devotion & love that Glenn and her had for each other was a great example to others. Their love stood the test of time.
Karen and I are heart broken to hear our cousin lrene has passed. Irene was always happy and is such a wonderful person! The world was a better place with her in it!!!
