Thomas Lee Nanna of Crestwood passed away unexpectedly on October 11th, 2019. Son of Melvin “Bud” and the late Anna Louise (Shetley) Nanna, Tom was born in St. Louis on February 2nd, 1963. He graduated from Bayless High School in 1981 and entered the U.S. Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country. After leaving active duty service, Tom continued to serve in the Missouri Army National Guard for an additional 14 years.
In the private sector, Tom worked for Penske Racing, Alberici Construction, and remained a licensed real estate agent, working with Wood Properties. Tom started a career with the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier, and then worked for many years in the building engineer maintenance department. He was a leader among his colleagues, rising to Maintenance Craft Director in the Postal Workers Union Local No. 8, where he had the task of negotiating contract violations. Tom could relate to all, from those in upper management to the lowest ranking employee. Tom also served for three years as the Secretary/Treasurer of the American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO, St. Louis Gateway District Area Local No. 8.
Tom was also an active member of the Lemay Aces, serving as their Vice President.
Tom was a loyal friend who cherished the many friendships he maintained from childhood, as well as those he made later in life. Tom never met a person he didn’t like and could relate to everyone. He was able to make everyone feel like they were important to him. Blessed with the gift of gab, Tom could converse with anyone.
Tom was a loving and devoted father, always eager and willing to help his children grow and learn. He fought for their safety and well-being, and took on the task of raising three munchkins, always encouraging them to stretch their limits and constantly try new things. Tom was their biggest supporter and number one fan. They were his world and he loved them dearly.
Tom’s charm, wit and sense of humor won the heart of his wife and best friend, Rebecca, whom he adored. He was always able and willing to make her laugh, and always reminded her to look at the positive side of life. They made many cherished memories during their time together.
Tom lived a selfless life. Always willing to lend a hand to anyone, he continued helping others in death as in life as an organ and tissue donor through Mid America Transplant.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Rebecca; his children Stephanie Nanna (Mitchell Young), Kimberlee Nanna and A.J. Nanna; his father, Bud; his two brothers, Dave (Lori Goser) and Greg (Shelly); as well as several nieces and nephews.
