MARY KATHLEEN O’CONNOR, A REMEMBRANCE
Mary Kathleen O’Connor was dedicated to helping people. She graduated from Saint Louis University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work. She went on to achieve a Masters in Social Work, and finally completed a 2-year program in Advanced Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. All of these Mary put to good use in faithfully and resourcefully serving her patients at St. John’s Mercy Hospital. Mary delighted in sharing stories about the some of her surprising conversations with the nuns with whom she worked.
Mary was nothing if not Irish, and cherished her collection of clothing, crystal, and other artifacts from the Emerald Isle. Mary adored her father, whom she nurtured for four years during his final illness. Mary also adored (if that is the correct word) her rather mischievous dog, Patrick, who after all is said and done, melted her heart.
Mary was energetic, and did her share of distance running. Her favorite event was a charity softball game, played in the middle of winter.
Mary faced more than her share of adversity in her final years, but her fierce determination saw her through, with her head held high.
She will be missed.
Services: There will be a graveside service for Mary on Friday September 20th at St. Matthew Cemetery (4360 Bates St, St. Louis, MO 63116) at 2:00pm
Rest in eternal peace Mary
