In Loving Memory

O’Malley, Mary Patricia (nee Sullivan)

April 12, 1928 - October 6, 2026

O’Malley, Mary Patricia (nee Sullivan), age 98, October 6, 2026, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, July 26.  Beloved wife of the late Robert O’Malley for 53 years; loving mother of Jeanne (Dennis) Schultz and Kathy (Brad) Moylan; dear grandmother of Helen (Andy) Hill, Jack, Joseph and Anna Schultz; dear great grandmother of Lucy, Henry, Dominic, and Maria Hill; dear aunt, great-aunt, sister-in-law, and friend.

Pat was born April 12, 1928, in Detroit, MI to William Sullivan and Catherine Joyce.  She had one beloved sister, the late Barbara Ahrens.  Pat studied Art at Michigan State.  As a young woman, Pat lived in Los Angeles and then New York City, where she met Bob O’Malley.  They married Nov. 18, 1961.  The couple moved to Mehlville in St. Louis in 1965 and raised two daughters.  Pat was employed as a telephone operator at Los Angeles City Hall, and at Lin Hess art company in New York.  In St. Louis she worked sewing costumes for the Webster University Theatre Department and provided page layup for the St. Louis Suburban Journal.  Pat was an active room mother, Brownie troop leader, and Camp Fire Girl leader.  She volunteered as a Meals on Wheels driver, and an OASIS tutor, and was active with the St. Simon Catholic Parish Quilters. She enjoyed going on day trips, painting, drawing, reading, writing, sewing, quilting, dance, theatre, and classical music. Grandma and Papa spent many years celebrating Grandparent days, recitals, musicals, birthdays and holidays and graduations with the family.  Pat enjoyed five years of independent living at Crestview Senior Living, where she looked forward to long phone conversations with her nephew, Patrick.    Pat was a faithful Catholic her whole life and we are grateful for your prayers for her and our family.

  5. Dear Jeanne and Kathy,
I am sad to learn of your mothers death. I have many fond memories of Aunt Pat, many before either of you were born! Did you know that she hand made clothes for Linda and my Barbie dolls? (I wonder if she gave us the dolls in the first place?) I loved that, even as young girls, she addressed us as thinking beings, much like her mother in law, our Nano, did. (Well, maybe I didn’t love it then, but I love it now.) And in later years, visiting St Louis or in my Florida home, I loved it when we enjoyed the O’Malley tradition of a Manhattan cocktail and intellectually stimulating conversation before dinner, she stayed informed and could hold a good debate. I know that my experience barely scratches the surface of the whole person, in fact, I guess I really barely knew her, but who I knew was smart and kind and good. That is how I will remember her.
