In Loving Memory

Pence, Brian Douglas Jr.

Our beautiful son, Brian Douglas Pence Jr. (Brian) passed away on August 27th 2022 at the age of 27.  He was born prematurely on December 10, 1994, a cold, blustery day in the subzero temperatures in the suburbs of Minneapolis. He came into the world too early and left us much too soon.

We will always remember Brian’s incredible gifts and talents. He was an accomplished Violist, but was remarkably able to pick up almost any instrument and start playing by ear. He would randomly hear a song he thought his dad or one of his siblings would like and send it to them and, you know, he nailed it every time. One of the things he truly enjoyed was building computers and making them unique to the individual.   He loved the sciences, arts, poetry, and the English language all equally. His brain was like a sponge that absorbed information.  If you have never read anything he had written, you missed out because he was damn good at it.  Brian was on the spectrum and connecting did not always come easy for him, but for those who took the time to get to know him, they discovered that he had a kindness and compassion for others, a deep loyalty in his friendships and people he loved and a quirky, quick witted sense of humor.

Brian graduated from Lindbergh High School with Highest Honors and an International Baccalaureate Degree in 2013. He also received a Varsity Letter running the 2-mile and became a national level foosball champion.  He went on to graduate from St. Louis University with a BA in Rhetorical English, although his true passions kept him close to sciences.

Brian was a “Radiation Tech” at Washington School of Medicine, in the Medical Physics department performing QA.  He took great pride in his work and was appreciated by many.

Most of all Brian sought out those less fortunate and had great compassion to help others whenever possible.  Donating to food banks, protesting for the rights of those less fortunate, and just having a conversation with someone in need to see how he could help.

We have lost a brilliant and creative mind and a deep heart and soul for those he loved and those who loved him.

Brian is survived by his parents, Brian and Kelly Pence of St. Louis, his sister and her husband, Madison and Andrew Hauck of Kansas City, his brother, Jonathan Pence. His grandparents, Sonny and Patsy Link of Dayton, Ohio and his grandmother, Marjorie Fitch of Pittsfield, NH.

Visitation will take place at Kutis Funeral Home in Affton, 10151 Gravois Rd, St. Louis, MO 63123, on Thursday, Sept. 1 from 4-6pm, which will be followed by a memorial service at 6pm.
