Hazel Marie Powell nee Lancaster born on 28 October 1938 in Madison, Illinois to the late William Lancaster 1911-1957 and Loretta (Snider) 1913-2006 has gone to her great reward on September 19, 2023 at the age of 84 years 10 months and 22 days in Chesterfield, Missouri cod was aspirated pneumonia. She was a dedicated witness for God and shared her faith unselfishly.
Preceding her in death were her parents and siblings Barbara (Oscar)Long, Charles “Bud” Lancaster and Everett Lancaster.
Surviving family include her husband Walter Powell married 20 November 1960 and their three children: daughter Pamela (Milo) Wieberg – grandchildren Crystal (Wieberg) Busalachi, and Michael Wieberg, daughter Faith Powell, son Jason Powell and 5 great grandchildren. Many other family and friends will mourn her passing.
Hazel graduated from Eminence high school then moved to Kansas City and worked as a secretary and as a live in caregiver. Then she spent many years as a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She learned to drive when she was 30 and the adventures began. She was happiest on the road, putting hundreds of thousands miles on the car much to her husband’s dismay. She became a licensed real estate agent and landlord. Her drive and ambition culminated in rental property valued at over a million dollars. Hazel’s life was a spiritual journey filled with learning and research focused on business, politics, spiritual and holistic health. True to her Cherokee heritage she was the medicine woman of our family. She was larger than life. We had so much fun. Our hearts are broken, peace on your travels.
Thank you for the kind words for and about my mother.
Hazel, I lost contact with you had no idea you had passes. So sorry the read this. You was a very kind person and we had so much fun when our children were small and we lived on Skylark in Florissant MO.
May God Bless you
Pat VanThull. Mike & Steve’s Tessereau, mom
Pat, we loved being neighbors and friends at Skylark. She often shared stories about your adventures together with husbands, kids, and property stuff. She loved her trip to visit with you in another state and hummingbirds. We might not have seen each other regularly but you and your family live in our hearts. We love Mikey and Stevie. So sorry you found out this way. We were too heartbroken to do a service. Faith Powell, the second daughter. Probably just the baby at Skylark.
