In Loving Memory

Preiss, Shirley Ann (nee Venezia)

82, passed away December 19, 2020. Shirley is survived by her loving children, Ron (Jennifer) Preiss, Kelly (Richard) Simonds, Karen (Michael) Wilson and Tina Preiss; dearest grandmother of Ashley, Nick, Mike, John, Gabe, Maddie, Jake, Sydney and Mitchell; Aunt, Cousin and friend to many.
Shirley is best known as the “other” half of Ron & Shirley’s restaurants from 1972-1991. Her joy of the restaurants during that time was of pure love. Her customers which she considered family still to this day inquire how she was doing. Her smile and laugh are something they fondly remember. Without hesitation when families would walk in, she would take the kids so the parents could enjoy their dinner. Booth #3 was where you could always find her!
Shirley was from a family of 3 siblings which have all gone before her. Pete (Lorraine) Venezia & Dolores (Jerry) Wetterofff. They were all close and it brings comfort knowing they have been reunited.

Shirley’s family has always been an important part of her life and she has always been an important part of theirs. She adored her children and grandchildren. The highlight of her day was knowing she could spend it with them. She babysat every weekend when her grandchildren were young and quickly became the favorite sitter to all of them. As the years continued, she remained an important part of their life. Grandma Shirley was the best!
Shirley loved hosting parties for all her friends and family. She had the best parties in St. Louis. She loved to cook and bake and there was no Christmas cookie she could not make. Being a hostess and around her friends made her happy.

Though quite tired the last few years, Shirley still gathered all her strength to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Shirley will be remembered by her perfect hair, gracious smile and contagious laugh.

Services: A Mass will be held on Monday. December 28, 2020 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church at 12:00 noon. All are welcome to join or it will be livestreamed through St. Joan of Arc. A private burial will immediately follow.

  1. So sorry for your loss…even though I never had the pleasure of knowing your sweet mom…I can see though that she raised beautiful, kind and thoughtful children who are special friends to me. Love you girls to the moon and back. And Ron … Stan sends you his deepest sympathies.

  3. So sorry for your loss. When my aunt Dorothy worked at Ron & Shirleys we were always there to eat. That was a lot of years. When we were turning 21 Shirley said I better be the one to buy your first drink and that’s where we went to Ron & Shirleys on Pernod. She was a great lady and she will be missed. Prayers to your families to help you get through this tough time. Debbie
