Oscar Ratterman

In Loving Memory

Ratterman, Oscar “Skip”

September 8, 1932 - June 11, 2025

Oscar “Skip” Ratterman passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025 with his family by his side and blessed with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church. He was born in Louisville, KY to the late Mary Louise and Oscar Ratterman, Sr.; beloved husband for 68 years of Shirley Ratterman (nee Hoellman); loving father of Judy (Rob) Shipp, Cathy (Scott) Lehman and the late Michael (surviving Shelly) Ratterman; dear grandfather of Garrett (Stephanie), Andrew, Colin (Alexandra), Erin, Anna (Jay) and Cara. Great-grandfather of Addison, Graham, and Cody; dear brother of the late Philip Ratterman.

He received a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Louisville, Master’s Degree in Engineering Management  from University of Missouri-Rolla and a Teaching Certificate in Mathematics and Chemistry from Washington University. He spent his career as a Chemical Engineer at Monsanto.

After retirement he tutored students at Cardinal Ritter College Prep, St. John Vianney and Notre Dame High Schools.

Skip was a man of deep faith and lived it out in service to others. He had the best smile, loved and cherished his family, and was happiest when everyone was together laughing and having a good time. Skip enjoyed following U of L basketball and spending as much time as possible on a golf course.

We would like to thank his loving caregivers at Friendship Village Sunset Hills.

Services; Funeral from Kutis Affton Chapel 10151 Gravois, Thursday June 19, 9:30 AM to St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church for 10:00 AM Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations to FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students) preferred. Visitation Wednesday 5:00-7:00 PM.

  4. Shirley and extended family,
I was blessed to meet Skip as a freshman at Flaget High School. Skip and I became life long friends. We continued share activities together until we graduated from U of L Speed School. His Mother , Father and Phil were like a second family to me, They even took me on vacations with them. I’m only sorry that our careers after college kept us from seeing each other very often. I truly share your loss.
