In Loving Memory

Reitinger, John A.

March 24, 1954 - September 13, 2025

John A. Reitinger
March 24, 1954 – September 13, 2025
With deep sorrow and loving remembrance, we share the sudden passing of John A. Reitinger, on September 13, 2025, with family by his side. He was 71. John was born on March 24, 1954, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Mary Johns. John lived his life with unwavering devotion to his family. For 33 years, he was the loving husband of Julie Reitinger (nee Herron), with whom he built a home rooted in love, laughter, and shared adventures. John’s greatest joy was his children, and he was a loving and extremely proud father to Dawn (Herman) Alonzo, Heidi Reitinger Kveton, Matt (Kelly) Reitinger, Scott (Sara) Reitinger, and Jacob Reitinger. His heart overflowed with his role as “Papa” to his cherished grandchildren: Brittany, Ian, and Sophia Alonzo, Ayden and Brody Kveton, Christian and Evan Reitinger, and Meghan Eller. John cherished his siblings; Ronald (Carol) Larson, the late Rose (Bob) Labeau, Patricia “Trisha” Koke, the late Theodore (Leslie) Johns, his late brother Michael (Leslee) Reitinger, Carol Reitinger, and in-laws Catherine Herron, Connie Herron, Janice (Dan) Gibbons, and James Herron. John was a loving grandson to Rose Weber, and an uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
John’s greatest joys were found in the simple but meaningful moments of life—traveling with loved ones, exploring the outdoors, watching sports, and enjoying the timeless charm of western films. He had a passion for music, concerts, and cooking and we will especially miss his BBQ pork steaks. In marriage, John and Julie were always on the go for adventure, enjoyed hiking and camping in national parks with the “big yellow tent” and lived by the motto “Together we can do anything”. John had a quiet nature, quick sense of humor, and a generous spirit and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. John was a proud member of UFCW Local 655.
Visitation will be held at Kutis South County Funeral Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd., St. Louis, MO 63129 (south of Butler Hill), on Thursday, September 18th, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Chapel Service will take place the following morning, Friday, September 19th, at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church (6603 Christopher Dr., St. Louis, MO 63129). Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in John’s memory to Forest Park Forever (forever.org/tribute-donations), to the DePaul University Student Emergency Fund (giving.depaul.edu/), or to Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital (rankenjordan.org/).
