In Loving Memory

Ritterskamp, Linda Sue (née Vansant)

July 10, 1954 - October 21, 2026

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Douglas; her daughter, Tammy (Tim Gieseking); her siblings Cathy Cook, Susan (Reese) Groshong, Tom (Suzy) Vansant, Carol (Mike) Kelleher, and Ann (Will Gallagher) Sebert; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Linda was born on July 10, 1954, in Kansas City, MO, to Robert and Eleanor (Pat) Vansant. As the second of six children, she was known for her generosity, problem-solving skills, and a flair all her own.

She graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City in 1972. Linda went on to attend Washington University in St. Louis where she met the love of her life, Douglas, at a Theta Xi fraternity party. They married on March 23, 1974, in Kansas City and soon relocated to New York City to begin their life together.

In 1976, Linda was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma and underwent radiation therapy. This life-saving treatment granted her 50 more vibrant years, although it created health challenges in her later years.

Doug and Linda moved to St. Louis in 1978 and joined Union United Methodist Church, where they formed many lifelong friendships. Linda earned a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1983 and worked for Sverdrup Corporation until 1984, when she and Doug welcomed their daughter, Tammy. Later, Linda worked at The College School where Tammy attended.

Linda was always generous with her time, talents, and treasure. She loved singing in church choir and sewing—skills she picked up at a young age and continued throughout her life. She delighted in making her own clothes, family wedding dresses, dance costumes, and special gifts. She enjoyed traveling on “sisters trips,” mission trips, as well as cruises with Doug. Ever prepared, she was a wonderful travel companion who always had anything you needed and was glad to share. Linda also took great joy in live musical theater at the Muny and the Fabulous Fox, as well as walks with friends at the Missouri Botanical Garden.

In a final act of generosity, Linda donated her body to the Washington University School of Medicine to advance research and education for future medical professionals.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Linda’s life at a date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hodgkin’s International.
