Roncal

In Loving Memory

Roncal, Placida Ferrer

Placida Ferrer Roncal, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away on April 6, 2022. She was 100 years old.

Placida was born in Tupiza, Bolivia to Lucinda Tejerina and Juan de Dios Ferrer on Oct. 5, 1921. In 1939, she married Evaristo Roncal, and had three children:  Mercedes Roncal Ferrer, Jaime Roncal Ferrer and Ana Maria Roncal Lahman.

Her life in Bolivia was lively and full of friends and family. Placida, who played basketball, along with her sisters Elisa and Fanny, was also a force to be reckoned with in the kitchen, where she would help prepare enough food to feed the many relatives who would stop by her home for a great meal before returning to work.

She moved to the United States in 1992, to live with her children. Apart from cooking (Placida often helped her daughter prepare great meals), her passions included dancing — she and Evaristo dancing the tango was a sight to see — as well as listening to Bolivian music, enjoying Bolivian delicacies such as fricase and chicharron, watching sports on television and crocheting. Placida also enjoyed an El Maguey margarita on the weekends.

Placida Roncal took enormous joy in her family and friends, her infectious smile and laughter lighting up any room in which she happened to be sitting. She will be missed as much as she was loved — greatly.

Placida is preceded in death by her husband, Evaristo, and her sisters, Saturnina and Cristina, her daughter, Mercedes, and her brothers, Benigno and Walter.

She is survived by her sisters, Elisa Ferrer and Fanny Ferrer Ordonez; her son, Jaime, and his wife, Pamela Shearman, and their children (Marco Roncal Franck and his wife, Stacy; Monica Roncal Franck and her husband, Omar Salinas; Marianela Spung, and her husband, Jeff; Laura Roncal and her fiancée, David Carter; her daughter Ana Maria, and her husband, Kenneth, and her daughter (Carla Maria Scott Jones and her husband, Preston), as well as her great-grandchildren (Sofia and Elizabeth Roncal; Kai Salinas and Morgan and Jacob Spung).

Services will be held at noon Saturday at Kutis Funeral Home at 5255 Lemay Ferry Road.
