Shirley Sanders

In Loving Memory

Sanders, Shirley Mae (nee Brockmeier)

October 29, 1934 - October 10, 2024

Resting in the arms of the Lord on Thursday, October 10th, 2024.

Shirley M. Sanders was a caring and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt and friend to many.  She left us just prior to her 90th birthday, leaving us with a remarkable example of quiet strength.

She was the only child of Tom and Anna Mae Brockmeier in St. Louis, Missouri.  She was the beloved wife of the late Gene Sanders; devoted mother of Debra (Randy) Spaethe and the late Dennis Sanders and David (Helene) Sanders; adoring grandmother of Andrew (Ellen) Spaethe, Victoria (Kevin) Rogers, Lauren (Dan) Fernandez, and Kim (Tyler Edgerton) Sanders; loving Gram to Rylee Nikolaisen and Gigi to Owen Fernandez and Vivianne Fernandez.

While raising her 3 children, she worked at Famous-Barr for many years making many friends.  She then maintained the business records for their automobile service business in Sunset Hills.  Upon retiring, Gene and Shirley moved to Cuba, MO for a more relaxing life and where she made too many friends to count.  One of her proudest endeavors was as a volunteer at the Cuba Ministerial Alliance aka Cuba Food Pantry where she used her record-keeping experience to provide food and other essentials to those needing assistance.  She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Crestwood and then Cuba, Missouri.  She enjoyed being needed by family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions made to the MS Society or the Cuba Food Pantry  (P.O. Box 72, Cuba, MO 65453) are greatly appreciated.

SERVICES: Funeral at KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL (10151 Gravois Rd., 63123) on Friday, October 18th at 10:00 AM. Private interment at Allen Cemetery (Eureka, MO). Visitation on Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM.

Condolences

  1. I mainly knew Shirley through her daughter, Debbie, who exhibits the same kind, generous spirit as Shirley, and who is also a friend to many. I bid peace to the family, knowing that she will be missed from Cuba to St. Louis.
