Went to be with the Lord and her heavenly family on May 13, 2023. She was born on September 11, 1930 to Florence and Alphonse Wirthensohn in St. Louis. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas R. Schieber. She attended St. Elizabeth’s Academy from 1944 – 1948 and Harris Teachers College from 1948-1950. Tom and Doris were married at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church on September 10, 1955 and had 58 wonderful years together, raising their family in the Pebble Hill neighborhood of St. Louis. It was there where they made so many lifelong true friends. They attended St. Dominic Savio Catholic Church for over 40 years. Doris worked for the Socony Oil Company for several years after college and for the St. Louis Public School System for nineteen years.
Doris was the loving mother to Joelle Lowing (Robert), Anne Gross (Mike), Jeanne Heekin (Mike), Sally Difani (Dave), Tom Schieber (Tally) and Dan Schieber (Dave). She was the adoring grandmother to Patrick Gross (James), Elizabeth Gross Pree (Joey), Florina Moore (Jason), Andrew Heekin, Mary Heekin Wilby (James), Ben and Claire Difani, Tatum, Delaney, Carson, John Paul and Mitchell Schieber and the great-grandmother to Davine, Colton and Ally Moore and Evelyn Pree.
Doris had many fun and relaxing years at the Bethesda-Orchard Community in Webster Groves, where she was crowned “Queen of Bethesda – Orchard” in 2022. She will be forever remembered for her enduring faith in God, her strong love for family, her kindness to everyone she met, and of course her sharp bridge game. We love you so much mom and we thank you for your strength and the steadfast love you gave to all of us. Please hold a place for us in heaven!

Such a lovely woman to all her knew her. My husband, Pete, and I have fond memories of our times seeing and talking with Doris over the years. I always considered her a special person as a neighbor, fellow morning Mass attendee and parishioner over the years. our sympathies to the all the family.
Dan and David and family, you have our deepest condolences. Your mother sounds like she was an amazing woman. We know it’s always hard to lose a loved one, but it’s also comforting to know she is now with your father again. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers right now and she will always be in your hearts forever.
Just today heard about Doris’s death. My sincere sorrow to hear this sad news. Knew Doris for many years living in Pebble Hill. She was always a swell LADY.
Schieber Family, I am so sorry to hear of your sweet Mom’s death so late. My Mom just loved your Mom, and she was always so kind and interested in us kids. I hope the warm memories are bringing you peace. There is surely a great Pebble Hill party in Heaven!
