Beloved husband of Margaret Ann “Peggy” Schmees (nee Whelan) for 68 years; devoted father of Cindy (George) Shannon, Terry (Pete) Ostlund, Sandy (Peter) Allen, John (Karen) Schmees Jr., Rick (Windy) Schmees, and the late Debbie Schmees; adoring grandfather of Michael (Robin), Anne (Mark), Mary Margaret (Brandon), Grace, John (Andrea), Julie (Dan), Pete (Mae), James (Mary), Mary Pat (Mason), Christopher (Melissa), James (Heather), Nichole (Jon Jon), Natalie (Noah), Taura, and Tim; cherished great grandfather of 26 (the late Anitta); dearest son of the late Harry and Martha Schmees; loving brother of Mary Lu (the late Robert) Fritz, Dorothy (the late Robert) Kuene, and Betty (the late Wayne) Thome; our dear uncle, great uncle, brother-in-law, cousin, and friend to many.

SERVICES: Visitation will be held at KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL (10151 Gravois Rd., 63123) on Friday, August 21st, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM.
Funeral Mass on Saturday, August 22nd, at St. Paul Catholic Church (15 Forest Knoll Dr., 63026) at 10:00 AM. Interment at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
John Schmees, a saintly man indeed. He, and Peggy, lived exemplary Catholic lives. John often inspired me to be a better husband, father, Knight, parishioner, Catholic man. I have missed him greatly these past few years and will continue to pray for him as long as I am able.
May the Lord bestow His comforting graces upon his family and friends.
With a sincere heart I offer my condolence’s to the Schmees family all relatives for their loss. May John, by Almighty God thru His son Jesus Christ, be taken into the Kingdom of God, finally being home in Christ, to also reunite with his daughter Debbie. I pray he is in peace.
Our heart goes out to all of his family for their great loss. I remember John as a lovely cousin as we grew up. He had such a smile that just made you feel good. Time and miles keep us apart but I always looked forward to The Old Rock Church picnic where we could visit with John and wife Peggy.
Wonderful friend and great example to others of our heavenly Father.. May he rest in peace.
