Sister Jean M. Schmid, SSND, survived by her brother Don of St. Louis, MO, and sister Therese Folsom of Columbia, MO, beloved by friends, classmates, Sisters in Community and SSND Associates passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
Services: Visitation/Prayer Service will be held at The Sarah Community,12284 DePaul Dr. Bridgeton, MO 63044, Monday June 8th, at 2:30-3:30 p.m. in the Marian Chapel.
Funeral Mass be held, Tuesday June 9th at Theresa Center Chapel, 320 East Ripa Ave. St. Louis, MO 63125 with Visitation at 10:15 a.m. Sharing of Memories at 10:45 a.m. and Mass at 11:15 a.m. Internment at Sancta Maria in Ripa Cemetery.

Sr Jean was a very nice lady, and widely travelled School Sister. I met her at a Notre Dame “ice cream social”, I believe, in the early 2000s. We were fast friends because she grew up in north Saint Louis and was able to tell me about my family and their church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help. She liked that our kids were learning Japanese from one of the ND Pre teachers, because she had performed mission work in Japan as a young nun. Sr Jean also spent years, if I recall, in India, and spoke glowingly of the devotion to “our lady” of the people she met in that country. Sr Jean was intelligent, kind, loving, adventurous, and devoted to God. She was a wonderful ambassador for the School Sisters of Notre Dame. May perpetual light shine upon her.
