Schmidt, Joan M. (nee Reichert)
Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Beloved wife of Harry A. Schmidt for 60 years. Dearest mother of Pam (Keith) Hamilton, Harry “Augie” (Lisa) Schmidt and Todd Schmidt. Loving grandmother of Kristin (Ben) George, Stephanie (Trevor) Nichols, 2nd Lt. Tucker Schmidt, US Army, Midshipman Colton Schmidt, USMMA, Jacob and Ellie Schmidt. Our dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend.
As a life-long educator, Joan happily shared her love of art with her family, students, and friends. She displayed a creative mind that was beautifully expressed in paintings, drawings, and journals.
Even greater than Joan’s love of art was her love of family. Married to her high school sweetheart, Harry, for over 60 years, they were blessed to travel around the globe together. But Joan’s favorite destination was her home in Siesta Key, Florida. Joan developed close friendships with her “snow bird” friends, reconnecting each season through pool parties and club house events.
Joan loved sharing her Florida home with her beloved family. She found great joy in seeing vacation photos from her children and grandchildren as they too came to love and experience beach life on Siesta Key.
Lovingly referred to as “Grandma, Monie, and Granny”, Joan was actively involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Never missing a grandchild’s graduation, lovingly following her children’s military moves across the country, vigilant in the safety of her police officer son, Joan remained connected to her family through daily texts.
Bear hugs and sugar kisses sweet Momma!
Services: Memorial Service at a later date. In Lieu of flowers donations to artsashealing.org or American Cancer Society appreciated. A Kutis South County service.
Dear Harry and Family,
We are saddened to learn of Joan’s passing. What a vivacious person she was! I will never forget Joan and her positive attitude about life. To me, she never seemed to complain, although I know she was challenged greatly these past few years. Love of family and of art were paramount in her life. She journaled and documented her journey with cancer. May she now rest in peace in the beauty of heaven in the loving embrace of the One who made her!

I didn’t know Joan personally but through her loving daughter, Pam, I came to know what a wonderful mother she was and a beautiful person. Seeing her picture, I see Pam’s sweet face in her Mom. No more pain for Joan who is now in the loving arms of Jesus. May God’s peace and comfort be with the family

Our family is heartbroken to hear of our neighbor’s passing. Joan & Harry were some of the first neighbors to greet us & make us feel welcome when my Dad built our home many years ago.We moved in with a 3 yrs old & a newborn, then a baby brother 2 years later. Our 3 children are now grown & saw Joan, always smiling & chatty when she & Harry weren’t in Siesta Key during St. Louis Winters. Our Grandchildren loved to see Joan out & about, walking ‘her fluffball’ puppy. So very sad to lose a great neighbor. We shall miss your vitality & great laugh, Joan. Our love & condolences go out to sweet Harry & all of Joan’s family.

Remembering Joan as a dear cousin, friend and fellow educator. Our fathers Mike and Ray respectively were brothers and looked very much alike. Although we lived far apart, I was always happy to see her and speak with her as time and circumstances allowed. She now rests in the arms of our gracious Lord. May she rest in peace.

Dear Harry and Family,
I was saddened to learn of Joan’s passing, but I know she is at peace. She will always be a special person to me. As a new, young teacher, I could not have been given a better mentor who guided me and shaped me into the teacher I became. She showed me the ropes and how to keep a balance between school and personal life. Good memories and many laughs together. Joan and you introduced me to my favorite of places, the beach, especially on the Gulf side by our stays in Siesta Key. Joan touched many lives with her teaching, art, and above all her genuine love of life and those she shared it with. Joan will always have a special place in my heart. Many prayers for Joan and all of you. Peace be with you all.
Sincerely,
Brian Schick
