In Loving Memory

Schmidt, Mihaly “Mike”

May 18, 1942 - September 15, 2024

Schmidt, Mihaly “Mike”, age 82, baptized into the hope of Christ’s resurrection on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

Beloved husband of Rita Schmidt (nee Hutchinson) for 61 years; dearest father of Michelle Schmidt, Maryanne (Frank) Homa and the late Michael (survived by Gretchen) Schmidt and Joseph Schmidt; loving grandfather of Eric & Adam (Elizabeth) Schmidt, Elizabeth, Frank & Andrew Homa, and the late Madeline Schmidt; dear brother of Anna (the late Frank) Taschek and the late Robert (survived by Ilona) Schmidt; dear brother-in-law of Janet Hutchinson and the late Kathy (survived by Walter) Goodyear; our dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend.

Mike was born in Sopron, Hungary and came to the United States with his brother and sister in law at the young age of 14.  He became a very skilled welder and was part of the Boilermakers Union for 35 years.  Mike retired at age 55 from the union and started his own company, Schmidt Manufacturing, where he designed and welded his own creations.  Anything metal he could make into something.

Mike also had a great love for the outdoors, was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed fishing.  He also loved riding motorcycles, fixing up old cars and just tinkering in his workshop.  After he retired, he had many adventures traveling around the country with his wife and in laws. He was very much a family man and loved to spend as much time as possible with his grandkids attending all of their sporting events and enjoyed cooking family dinners for them all.

Mike had a big smile and fun laugh to go with it.  His buddies will tell you – he was just an all around great guy.  He will be missed by so many but know that he is at peace now.

Services: Visitation at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Catholic Church on Friday, September 20, 11:00 am until funeral mass at 12:00 pm. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Parish, appreciated.

Condolences
