Betty-J.-Schwartz

In Loving Memory

Schwartz, Betty J.

(Written by Betty Schwartz herself)

Schwartz, Betty J. (nee Wagner), fortified with the sacraments of the Holy Mother Church, entered into rest on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at the age of 95 in St. Louis.  Born August 15, 1927, to the late George & Gladys Wagner.  Beloved wife of the late Syl F. Schwartz.  Her only sibling was her dear brother, the late Edward L. Wagner (his wife Shirley, dear sister-in-law, survives him).  Betty & Syl had 4 children, Douglas (Laura) Schwartz, Mark (Linda) Schwartz, Randy (Ann) Schwartz, and Lisbeth “Betsy” (Rob) Dugger.  Beloved grandmother of Kris (Sean) Haase, Jennifer Faulkner, Megan Schwartz, Karen Sovich (Jamie), Rebecca (Greg) Sinnwell, Sarah (Dennis) Martin, Jacob (Stacey) Schwartz, Henry (Jennie) Schwartz, Zachary (Jessi) Schwartz, Ben (Stephanie) Schwartz, Andrea (Daniel) Cuneio, James (Kelly) Crisel Jr, Emily (Joe) Westhoff, and the late Jeffrey and Josh Schwartz.  Betty has 39 wonderful great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchilden.

Betty graduated from Cleveland High School in 1944.  She attended Missouri Business College and upon graduation was selected for a civil service position (a service appointment).  In 1947 when Syl returned from four years of Navy duty (aboard LST 659), they were married.  They had four children and she was a stay-at-home mom.  When Syl passed in 1976, she resumed her government career in the Defense Department (Army) and retired with a total of 20 years of service.

Betty enjoyed making baby quilts for all the Grands and Greats.  She was an avid reader, a Boy Scout Den Mother, a Girl Scout Cadet Leader, and a life-long member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Lemay.  She lived in the same house for 70 years in Lemay.  She was an aunt to many nieces and nephews, dear cousin to a remaining special few.  She was a dear friend to her special group of “girls” from high school and both periods of government employment.  Above all she loved her family and spending holidays with them.

To my beloved kids – When I start on my final journey, I will take you with me in my heart (when I meet up with the love of my life — your dad).  Love, Mom

Funeral from Kutis Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois, on Wednesday, May 10, 9:30 AM to St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church for 10:00 AM Mass. Interment J.B. National Cemetery.
