Shanle, Leland C.

December 24, 1932 - August 1, 2023

 

Our family is saddened to announce our father, grandfather, brother, uncle has passed away on 1 August 2023 fortified by the sacraments, with family at his side. Born to Florence and Charles Shanle on Christmas Eve 1932. He still has the record for youngest Eagle Scout. An accomplished athlete he lettered in four sports at John Carroll University. Upon graduation he received a commission in the US Army, deploying during the Cold War. After completing his service he became the Dean of Business Affairs at Forrest Park Comm College and settled in Webster Groves raising his three kids. Remaining active in amateur sports he was a ranked tennis player in STL and recently won two medals in the Senior Olympics. A visitation will be held at 1:00 on Wednesday 9 August at Holy Redeemer Church in Webster Groves with funeral Mass at 2:00. He loved flowers.

  1. I wanted to send my heartfelt sympathy to all of my Shanle relatives after hearing about Leland’s passing. I remember those fun times when he and many of you visited us on the farm, riding around the country sitting on lawn chairs in the back of the wagon (a.k.a. the manure spreader). I also remember the last time Leland visited my Mom, Louise in Mt. Pulaski and how much he loved the bacon and eggs she made for him in the morning. He had some great accomplishments in life and I pray many happy memories of him will be with you during this time.
