Mary-Jane-Simon

In Loving Memory

Simon, Mary Jane (nee Meyer)

Mary Jane (Meyer) Simon passed away peacefully on Tuesday February 9th at her home in St Louis with her husband Paul of 65 years by her side.

Mary Jane was born on March 9 th, 1935 to Paul and Sarah Lucille (Powers) Meyer in St Louis MO.  During her high school days at  St Francis de Sales and at a teen dance she met her future husband.    They wed in 1955, going on to have 5 children…  Samuel, Paul, Jayne, Jim and Joan.   She was the very definition of support for her husband when he attended evening Law School while continuing to raise her children.

We feel incredibly grateful to have had you as our Mother, Sitti and Great Sitti.  When we think of you so many different memories comes to our minds – memories that will live in our heads and hearts for a lifetime.  The things we remember most about you: you were always there for us no matter the circumstances, no matter your mood, no matter what time of day or night.  You taught us how to love unconditionally and have an open heart.  We saw further evidence of this unconditional love in the way that you loved your husband, your patience and commitment to Dad.  As children, you taught us to give our very best at everything we did.   When we came to you with hard decisions in our lives and felt confused you always listened before you offered guidance or advise.  You taught us to think for ourselves and let the principles of our faith guide us.  We thank you for making us the people we are today, for being our supporter, mentor and the rock that always stood by us no matter the situation, but you will best be remembered for the role of being our mother.  We Love you Mom.

Mary Jane was proceeded in death by her son Paul (Janice), her parents Paul and Sarah Lucille Meyer, her older sister Pauline Bauer (Ken -deceased), her brother John (Sandy) Meyer.   She is survived by her husband Paul of 65 years, sons Samuel (Laurie), Jim (Ann) and her daughters Jayne and Joan (Chris).  Mary Jane will also be fondly remember by her numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren,  brothers Edward (Wanda) Meyer and James Timothy Meyer (Susan-deceased).

A Funeral Service in memory of Mary Jane will be held on Monday February 15, 2021 at 2:00 pm at The Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, 4431 Lindell Blvd,  St Louis MO 63108.  Public viewing will be held at the Cathedral prior to mass from 12:30pm – 2:00pm. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers. Memorial donations in memory of Mary Jane may be made to The Paul Simon Jr Foundation, 345 Marshall Avenue – Lower Level in Webster Groves MO 63119. A service of KUTIS CITY CHAPEL, 2906 Gravois.

  13. Paul and Mary Jane have generously given of themselves to family, church, and community. There was never an assignment too large or too small – you could always count on Paul and Mary Jane to give of themselves. All this, while raising five accomplished children. May Mary Jane rest in the arms of Our Lord. Our condolences to the Simon Family.

  25. My deepest sympathy to Judge Simon. Sam, Jayne, ,Jim & Joanie,. Mrs Simon was a beautiful lady inside & out. Her deep faith and her love for her family were immeasurable. I loved watching her & Mr. Simon his adoration for his love of sixty-five years and holding her hand. It’s the kind of love we all would love to have. They raised together five beautiful children who are all a reflection of them. Strong in their faith, kind, compassionate, full of integrity and all hard working. To the spouses, grandchildren & great grandchildren she was a beautiful soul and I know she went straight to God’s arms and I know her beautiful son, Paul was waiting for her. I have been so blessed to be at so many family events and will cherish all those beautiful moments. I pray for all of you at this difficult time & treasure every memory. Lots of love to all the family

  29. To Paul and the entire Simon family,

I was deeply saddened by the news of your loss last week, and remain so. Your message of what Mary Jane meant to your family are among the most touching and heart-felt that I have ever seen and say more than I could ever add. I deeply regret that I am not able to physically be with this afternoon, but know I will be in spirit and that my thoughts and prayers will always be with you.

  33. Growing up, Mrs.Simon was the the beautiful, kind lady next door with a houseful of rambunctious kids, and it was always clear the entire family adored her. Later years I was always glad to see her at St. Raymond’s Wednesday lunches. I’m truly sorry for your loss and pray her soul is at peace.
