Anne Marie Smith (nee Dwyer), age 82, passed away peacefully while spending time with family on September 24, 2026. Anne Marie’s faith in God and love for her family are what defined her most.
Born on June 30,1944, Anne Marie was the daughter of the late William and late Marion Dwyer (nee Eberle). She was also the devoted mother of Angela Murnin (Tim) and Gina Thier (Joe) as well as the loving grandmother of Daniel Murnin, Michael Murnin, Patrick Thier, Anthony Thier, and Kathleen Thier. Anne Marie was preceded in death by her sister, the late Barbara Burkhardt (nee Dwyer).
Anne Marie’s greatest joys in life were her two daughters and grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with friends and her nieces.
Anne Marie was a proud lifelong resident of the Holly Hills neighborhood. She attended St. Stephen Protomartyr Catholic Grade School and St. Elizabeth Academy Catholic High School.
As a young girl, Anne Marie enjoyed going to “Teen Town” with her friends, and she spent countless hours ice skating in Carondelet Park. As a young mother, she was involved in her daughters’ girl scout troops and enjoyed serving as their room parent at St. Stephen Protomartyr. In later years, she spent many hours babysitting and developing close relationships with her five grandchildren.
Anne Marie will be greatly missed by her family. She touched many lives through her unbending faith and through her words of encouragement to others.
A memorial mass will be held for Anne Marie on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026 at 11:00 am at St. Stephen Protomartyr Catholic Church (3949 Wilmington Avenue). Visitation prior to the mass will begin at 10:00 am. All are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital are encouraged.
