Smith-Maria

In Loving Memory

Smith, Maria T. (nee Wolf)

81, entered into Heaven, surrounded by her family, on March 23, 2023.  Beloved wife of 53 1/2 years of Alan Smith; dear mother of Steve (Judy) Smith, Jenn (Brian) Raymond; dear grandmother of Madison and Jaxson; dear sister of Elizabeth Ward, John (Beth) Wolf, Katharine (Gary Groenemann) Meadows, Michael (Annette) Wolf; our dear aunt, sister-in-law, great-aunt, cousin and loyal friend.

Born in Zanegg, Hungary and then moved to Germany before immigrating to St. Louis at the age of 8. Early on, she attended business school and became an accomplished secretary. She worked for Mack Trucks before taking on her favorite role in life of raising her children. She spent many years taking care of many nieces and nephews and great nephews before eventually going back into the workforce. She then spent 20 years working at St. Anthony’s Medical Center, which she loved dearly. A devoted, loving grandma, she had the opportunity, after retirement, to spend more time with her 2 grandchildren who absolutely adored her.

Some of her favorite memories were her many vacations with her sister Liz, her partner in crime. She was very strong in her Catholic faith and a devoted parishioner at St. John’s Catholic Church, Imperial MO, for 45 years.

Services: Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois Rd., St. Louis, MO 63123; Visitation March 27th, from 4-8pm. Funeral March 28th, at 9:00am at St. John’s Catholic Church in Imperial, Burial to follow at Jefferson Barracks.

  5. Maria and I were classmates at Sophie Barat High School. She was a dear, sweet person. Years later, after Mass at St. John’s in Imperial, we would share stories of our memories together at school. Marie’s sister, Liz, was also a delight. What a wonderful family. My condolences. My heart hurts for you all. I am fortunate to have known Maria. God bless you.

  9. I work in activities at the nursing home that Maria resided at. She was the best. She was kind, playful, and had a great sense of humor. I have a lot of good memories of her. The one thing I’ll never forget about her was how much she LOVED ice cream, especially strawberry. If I approached her to offer ice cream but her family was there with a milk shake for her she did not care. The more the better. It was a pleasure to know Maria. Maria will be deeply missed. She is no longer suffering and in a better place. My deepest condolences to Jennifer, Steve, Alan, Madison, Jaxson and the rest of Maria’s family. It was a pleasure and I wish you all the best. Madison, I wish you nothing but the best of luck with your academic future. You clearly have a very bright future ahead of you. I know Maria is so proud of you. She’ll be watching with pride from above ( and most likely a cup of ice cream) as you move forward. May Maria’s memory be a blessing. May she rest in peace.
