Terrence W. “Terry” Spies will be remembered as a devoted husband to his wife, Carol Spies, and a loving father to his daughters, Kim Zarinelli and Pam Brown. He was also a fantastic uncle and a cherished friend to many.
As a young man, Terry served in the armed reserves and worked hard throughout his life to support his family. He spent many years working as a machinist at the can company until his retirement. In addition, Terry owned and operated a candy truck for several years, delivering treats throughout the St. Louis area.
Terry was a constant source of support for Carol in all her endeavors, frequently helping by picking up and delivering furniture for her and her sisters’ upholstery business. He retired a few years early and spent much of his time fixing things around the house, always staying busy and, as Carol would fondly say, “piddling.”
A dedicated and loving father, Terry coached and attended every softball game Kim and Pam played and took them to church every Sunday. Though he did not have sons, he made sure his daughters learned to hunt, fish, and change a tire, sharing skills and traditions he deeply enjoyed.
Terry especially loved hunting and fishing trips to his brother-in-law Bob’s farm in Richland, where the guys spent time hunting, playing cards, and enjoying a beverage together over the years. Affectionately known as “Mushy,” a nickname given by his closest friends, he loved traveling with these friends and enjoying cruises and trips out of the country. Terry and Carol met regularly with friends for lunches, dinners, and New Year’s Eve celebrations up until their final years together.
Terry will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and welcoming spirit, and anyone who ever met Terry could recall a funny story or a memorable moment shared with him.
