In Loving Memory

Stemler, Walter C.

Walter C. Stemler, of St. Louis, Mo., passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at the age of 91. Walter was born to John G. Stemler and Elsie Meyer-Lyon. He grew up in Columbia, Illinois on “Stemler Rd” next door to the cabin built by his great grandfather in 1836. He lived there through the Great Depression. Walter served in the Navy in 1945-1947 during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He married Evelyn Jean Robertson  whom he met at church in 1948. He called her his “brown eyed girl”. He was a hard worker his entire life, working many jobs but spent 35 years at Great Lakes Carbon. Walter and Evelyn had 7 children; 5 boys and 2 girls, whom later gave him 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great, great, grandkids. Walter will be dearly missed and remembered fondly.

Services: Memorial visitation will be held at KUTIS SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL 5255 LEMAY FERRY RD. on Thursday, February 20th, from 5 – 8 p.m. Private Interment will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
