Sullivan

In Loving Memory

Sullivan, Lily Jane (nee Ruwe)

January 16, 1934 - March 19, 2026

Sullivan, Lily Jane (Lil) passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on Thursday March 19, 2026, in St. Peter’s, MO.  Lily was born on January 16, 1934 to Marta & Wilhelm Ruwe in St. Louis, MO.   She is now reunited with her beloved husband of 52 years, Jerry Sullivan, who preceded her in death in 2011.  She leaves behind three children Mark (Deneice) Sullivan, Steve (Janice Meissner) Sullivan, and Debby (Tom) Keathley.  She was grandmother to Erin (Michael) Hieger, Emily (Jonah) Schmidt, John (Yessi) Keathley, Katie (Vince) Riggio, Jamie (Mark) Gray, Caitlyn Sullivan and Anna Sullivan.  Lily was a Great-Grandmother (aka “OMA” )to Hailey & Parker Keathley, Evenly & Charlie Hieger and Sophia & Rocco Riggio.  Lily was an older sister to Laverne Billingsley, who preceded her in death in 2013.  She leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends.

Lily was a proud graduate of Southwest High School, Class of 1951.  She later met the love of her life on a blind date—a moment that would shape the rest of her story. They were married in 1959 and built a life centered on family, much laughter, and unwavering devotion.

She was a loving mother to three children, a cherished grandmother to seven, and a proud Oma / great-grandmother to six. Her family was her greatest joy, and she created a home where everyone felt welcome. Growing up, she made sure her children’s friends always had a place to gather—complete with a pool table, ping pong table, and even a basketball court.  If her kids were not at home, you could hear the LOUD cowbell (or her distinct whistle) calling her little chickens back home.

She enjoyed a fulfilling career as a secretary, working at Sheehan Plumbing, Daniel & Henry Insurance, and later at Lindbergh High School—where she jokingly said she worked mostly to keep an eye on her three kids.

Her love for her grandchildren was unmatched. One of her most treasured traditions was taking each grandchild on a special trip for their 10th birthday—an experience they will forever hold close to their hearts. She was also known for her bravery and generosity in hosting some, or all, of her grandchildren on New Year’s Eve, giving their parents a chance to celebrate while she created lasting memories with the next generation.

A devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, she never missed a game and made sure she had the sports package so she could watch every pitch. Her enthusiasm for baseball was only matched by her love for her family and friends.

She built a lifetime of memories in the home she lived in from 1964 to 2024, surrounded by wonderful neighbors and dear friends who became like family.

In her final years, she resided at The Boulevard – St. Peter’s, where she was cared for with kindness and compassion. Her family is deeply grateful for the love and support she received there.

She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, generosity, and unconditional love. While she will be deeply missed, we find comfort in knowing she is once again with the love of her life.  Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will take place from 9:30-10:30 AM on Friday March 27, 2026, at Kutis Funeral Home, located at 10151 Gravois Road, Affton, MO 63123.  Funeral Service will follow at 11AM at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Road, St. Louis, MO 63125.  In place of flowers, Lily requested that you consider a donation to The BACKSTOPPERS Inc. (General or Education Fund) in memory of her, at www.backstoppers.org
