December 16, 1926 - March 17, 2024

was Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church. At the age of 97, she passed into eternal life surrounded by loving family on March 17, 2024. Beloved wife of the late Kenneth R. Sweeney for 59 years. Dear mother of Maureen (Thomas) Schneider, Jeanne (John L.) Samson, Cheryl (Dr. Carey) Laporte and Pat (Owen) Zidar. Dear grandmother of Matthew (Jamie) and Mark (Katie) Schneider, Jake and Josh (Ana Antunes) Samson, Chris and Mike Laporte, Owen Jr. (Hillary Smith), Meghan, Mary (Ketan Karnad), Kaitlin, Tommy and Ryan Zidar. Dear great-grandmother of Grant, Nicholas, Charlie and Finnley Schneider, Aiden Karnad and Owen F. Zidar. Beloved daughter of the late Frank A. Wesley and Marie Hrbacek Wesley. Dear sister of the late Frank A. Wesley Jr. Our dear aunt, cousin and friend.

Mrs. Sweeney grew up in St. Louis Soulard “Bohemian Hill” and attended St. John Nepomuk Grade School and Loretto Academy High School. She graduated with a BA in Sociology from Webster College in 1948. During her younger years, Marie’s “happy place” was the Wesley country home at Lake Avalon in Bismarck, Missouri. Marie was a long-time resident of Pebble Hill subdivision in Affton, Missouri. She was active in St. Dominic Savio Parish, Pebble Hill Garden Club and the Affton Historical Society. Marie was an enthusiastic participant in parish and community choirs. Later in life and until her passing, she was a resident of Bethesda Orchard House where she attended Holy Redeemer Church. Marie was an avid gardener and had a love for family and music. She will always be remembered as a classy and sassy lady with great style and grace.

SERVICES: Visitation at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church (17 Joy Ave. St. Louis, Missouri 63119) on Friday, April 19, at 10:00 a.m. followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Arrangements by Kutis Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to St. John Nepomuk Chapel (1625 S 11th Street, St. Louis, MO 63104) or the Missouri Botanical Garden.
