In addition to her husband, Bill, Nan was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Julius Chassaing and Marian Darst Chassaing, her brother, Edward (Ned) Chassaing, her sister, Mary Chassaing Phillips, and two infants, John and Joseph Thomas.

Nan worked as a bookkeeper early in her career and a travel agent in the 1980s, but her true calling was caring for babies and children, whether her own, her grandkids, or others she babysat, such as Danny and John McGuire, or the children at the Jewish Educational Alliance of Savannah, Georgia.
