George Thompson

In Loving Memory

Thompson, George Nicholas

June 14, 1949 - September 5, 2026

Thompson, George — Passed away Saturday, September 5, 2026. Born June 14, 1949.
Beloved husband of Barbara Thompson (nee Sackberger); loving father of Sarah (Dan) Whitworth and Carl (Kristen) Thompson; cherished grandfather of Lucy Whitworth; dear relative and friend to many.
Guided by his wide-ranging interests, George worked as an English and mathematics teacher, a computer programmer, and even owned his own chess shop for a few years. An active and curious person, he enjoyed weightlifting, walking, cycling along Grant’s Trail and the Riverfront, refereeing swim meets, and playing with his local dulcimer club.
He loved music, dogs, craft fairs, camping, and traveling to spots like White Sands, Dinosaur National Monument, Mount Rushmore, Nashville, Beale Street, and Ste. Genevieve. George had a special fondness for Kentucky—especially its horses and bourbon distillery tours—and equal appreciation for a fine glass of scotch and celebrating his bit of Irish heritage. Above all, he loved settling in to tell a long, wonderfully rambling story.
Services: Funeral from Kutis Affton Chapel 10151 Gravois, Friday September 18th, 9:15 AM to St. John the Beloved Disciple Catholic Church (Imperial) for 10:00 AM mass. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation Thursday, September 17th, 5:00-8:00 PM.

Condolences
