age 86, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away on January 28, 2025 at home peacefully and surrounded by family.
Thomas was born on December 19, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri to Dolly and Russell Thompson, the youngest of 3 children. He attended Bayless High School where he met his future wife, Joan Schmidt, and they graduated together in 1957. They married two years later, on May 2, 1959 – which was Derby Day, as Joan’s father lamented. To celebrate, they bet on Tommy Boy, a longshot who won it all.
He worked at McDonnell Douglas for 35 years. After joining his wife in early retirement, Tom and Joan enjoyed traveling the world together, where they made many new friends along the way. Tom was beloved by many, known for his strength of character and witty sense of humor. As he would frequently say, “Think positive” and everything will be okay.
Tom is preceded in death by Joan Thompson, who was his wife of 64 years. His spirit is carried on by his three children, Diane (Mike) Fitzgerald, Robert (Julie) Thompson, Donna (K.C.) Stonner; his grandchildren, Lindsey (Alec) Wegmann, Casey Fitzgerald, Haley (Sam) Freer, Claire (Josh) Stonner, Kelley (James) Finders, Kelsey Fitzgerald, Ellen Stonner; and 5 great-grand children.
