In Loving Memory

Thuro, Herman

May 31, 1931 - October 6, 2025

Herman Thuro, son of Herman and Emma (nee Kuhlmann) Thuro, was born on May 31, 1931, in St. Louis, Missouri. He was baptized on July 1, 1931, at Hope Lutheran, where he later attended parochial elementary school, and he was confirmed on April 19, 1945. Herman graduated high school in 1949 from Lutheran High School- Central in St. Louis as a member if it’s first graduating class.

On March 29, 1958, he married Doris Jean Webb, with whom he was privileged to enjoy 67 years in the nuptial estate. To this union, two children were born, who with their spouses and families survive alongside Doris. They are Kevin (Mary) Thuro of Ozark, MO, with their children Anthony (Shannen) Thuro, Bradley (Rachel) Thuro, Kevin Jr. (Melissa) Thuro, Angela Thuro, Timothy (Ashley) Thuro, and Alexander Thuro; and Gary (Tina) Thuro, with their children Lucas Thuro and Elizabeth Thuro. Also, they have been blessed with six great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Ryan, Mia, Zoe, Sophia, and Rylee.  He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters Leona (Weiford) Wells, Elfreida (Raymond) Gehl and Arline (Louis) Doering.

Following high school graduation, Herman began working in the railroad industry for Southwestern Freight Bureau in St. Louis, where he worked until 1984, when that company moved its offices to Chicago, Illinois. He also served in the Naval Reserve in the 1950’s. In 1982, he began part-time employment with Lever Bros. Co. in the retail laundry chemical business, continuing with them until 1989.   He and his son Gary established the chemical and janitorial supply business, Komro Supply Company, in 1991.  Herman began another part-time job in the 1950’s managing parking lots in the downtown St. Louis area for various employers, ultimately starting his own parking management company in 2008.  He continued to be active in his business endeavors until well into his 90’s.  He was an entrepreneur and made countless friends along the way.   Herman never met a stranger, he greeted everyone with a handshake and a company pen.

In 2007, Herman and Doris became communicants at Peace Lutheran Church, where their membership has remained, serving as an usher and a member of the Men’s Club. Herman enjoyed spending time with his family, dining at restaurants, traveling and visiting with friends. He also found time to pursue many hobbies over the years.  He was known for being generous and good- humored.

Herman enjoyed relatively good health into his 90’s. On July 21, he experienced a fall at home and was hospitalized. He underwent rehabilitation and entered Friendship Village Rehabilitation on August 14th, where he remained until his passing on October 6th, 2025. Herman attained the age of 94 years, 4 months, and 6 days. He loved the Lord and will be greatly missed by many.

In lieu of flowers donations to Peace Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice are appreciated.

Services: A public visitation will take place at Peace Lutheran Church (737 Barracksview Rd. Saint Louis, MO 63125) on Saturday October 11th, 2025 from 9am until the time of service at 11am. Interment to follow at St. Trinity Cemetery.

  4. It was nice getting to know Herman as our new next door neighbors. He was the one of the first people to meet our new puppy, and she loved his treats.
