Baptized into the Hope of Christ’s Resurrection Sunday, May 14, 2023.
Joan met her husband Joe as a teenager on a blind date at Springdale pool, and they eventually married in 1951. Her life was full of the adventure raising her children, but she was also an accomplished piano player and shared her music with all, a working Mom for 20+ years at Famous Barr, she loved nature hikes, camping, animals, and live theater. She taught her children to Ice Skate at Carondelet Park. Joan had a quick wit and sense of humor and could fill the house with her laughter. Joan passed on Mother’s day, her day, which is reflective of her selfless devotion to her children and everyone in her life.

I am saddened by the loss of your sweet mother Joan, please accept my heartfelt sympathy-and prayers for comfort and strength throughout the days to come. God Bless you all. ️️️
My husband and I went to school with Joan from KG to our graduation from Cleveland H.S. She was one of the sweetest girls I have ever known. We shopped at the same Grocery Store for years when our children were growing and they lived on Bellerieve. Just recently her son posted a photo for me of Joan hiking and she looked as happy and cheerful as always. Please accept our sympathy on the loss of such a beautiful and loving mother, grandmother and ggrandmother. Memories of time with her will always be in my heart.

I can trace so much of myself back to you, and am in awe of your compassion, pure love, enthusiasm for people, reverence for nature, musicianship, adoration of music, unbelievably sharp wit and incredible sense of humor, and your love of polka dots – they truly are wonderful. We are so grateful for everything you have left and gifted us. We love you.
Chris and Janet,
Sorry for your loss. So many fond memories. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Love you
By virtue of marrying Joan & Joe’s firstborn son Daniel, I gained a Mother-in-Law. Lucky me. The first time I met Joan at the Tierney Family’s home on Bellerive, she invited me to play her piano. Joan embodied just the right touch with so many in her life. Her heart was full of love and music and laughter. And let’s face it, Joan could make the best lemon meringue pie! And what about those tall tins of Christmas cookies: snickerdoodles, chocolate chip, and oatmeal raisin?!? When my Mother-in-Law hugged me hello or goodbye, it seemed she know my heart. I know I am not alone. Joan’s presence touched so many. I can hear her now, playing and singing all the Broadway tunes in the Great American Songbook. What a positive Lifeforce. Love to all who loved Joan Whelan Tierney. We will miss her.
