John Charles “Jim” Vuch age 96, Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Beloved husband of the late Shirley Anne Vuch; loving father of Becky (John) Nelsen, Patti (Matthew) Krautmann and John (Maria) Vuch; dear grandpa of Anne (Jeff), Mike (Ellen), Daniel (Laura), Jennifer (Nick), Jack (Katie), Hayley (Kam) and Anna; great grandpa of Jace, Avi, Everett, Josie, Theo K., Theo V. and Severin; dearest brother of Pat (the late John) Buncher, uncle and friend.
Jim was in the United States Navy serving in the Korean War. His 50 year career was with Boyd’s Clothing Store in a variety of roles starting as a stock boy climbing to vice-president of the company. He was an avid tennis player who played into his eighties. He was a faithful member of St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church. Also a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
Services: Memorial visitation Saturday, August 15, 2026, 10am until service 11am at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church 7100 Morganford Road St. Louis, MO 63116. Inurnment private at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church or Bethesda hospice, appreciated.

I was so very sorry to hear about the loss of your father and grandfather. Jim was an amazing man. I spoke to my brother Mike shortly before his death and he reminded me of his employment at Boyd’s thanks to Mr. Vuch! Your father was always willing to reach out to help others. I remember his smiling whenever I saw him. He and Shirley, as well as Becky, Patti and John were great neighbors on Koeln Ave. May Jim find peace as he has been reunited with Shirley. May your family find peace in the many memories you have together.

Ninety-seven! Wow! What a legacy he has left you! I called him Uncle Jim and he was always a sweet husband to Aunt Shirley and Dad to Becky, Pattie, and you! Prayers for your entire family as you mourn the passing of a wonderful man and role model.

My sympathies to the Vuch family. Mr Vuch was in my parents wedding. I got to know him more on Monday nights playing tennis at Carondelet, Wilmore parks and Lindbergh HS With my Dad and our 8-some. I’ll always remember his kindness and gentleness toward me.
Thanks so much Mark! Monday night tennis was always the highlight of the week. Spent a lot of time throwing baseballs/tennis balls against the stone bathrooms at Carondelet Park and then getting to sub on the tennis courts occasionally when I got older. Thanks for your message!

I met your dad through my mom Barbara Byerly. They lived down the hall from each other at Bethesda Terrace where they were bingo table buddies. When I had to move my mom to Southgate she was so happy to know she’d have her friend Jim there and it made her transition easier. Your dad was a kind, sweet man. Mom wanted to extend her condolences and let you know that he was a good friend to her.
Thanks so much Pam! I know he always enjoyed having his meals with Barbara and glad to know that they helped each other make their time at Southgate happier! He always enjoyed his table mates at mealtime and was one of the highlights of his day!
John so sorry for your loss. We didn’t know your dad but knowing you is a testament to what a good guy he was. He raised a very gracious man.

Condolences to my cousin, Jim. My dad was Emil Vuch, brother of John Vuch and son of John and Marie Vuch. Our families lived far apart unfortunately. Emil and Peg lived in Jacksonville, Florida. I was the first born of four: Ann, Jonathan (died), Susan, and Nancy. You are in my thoughts across the miles from New Hampshire.

My grandfather was Emil Vuch. Jim was Emil’s nephew. When I was young, Jim and Shirley visited my grandparents (here in Jacksonville) and I had the privilege of meeting them at that time.
Thank you, Jim, for the time you spent in the Navy during the Korean War. How grateful and appreciative we are for your service to our country. I wish I could go back in time and shake hands with you once more.
