Wallhermfechtel

In Loving Memory

Walhermfechtel, Daniel “Dan”

March 4, 1948 - December 15, 2023

Dan passed away at home on Friday, December 15th after a long illness. He was born on March 4, 1948, in St. Louis, MO and  lived in his family’s home for 75+ years. Dan was the dear son of the late Harry and Agnes (Wolz) Wallhermfechtel. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Leipholtz) Wallhermfechtel, dear father of Jaime Millikan and Matt Millikan, and grandfather of Kayley Dixon.

Dan is survived by his brother, David Wallhermfechtel, and wife Charlotte, along with nephew Steve Wallhermfechtel , nieces Denise Wallhermfechtel and Karen (Wallhermfechtel ) Hunsaker, and great uncle of Michael (Savannah), Alex, Madison and Turner Hunsaker and great-great-uncle to Elian Hunsaker.

Dan and Barbara were married March 10 2023 after being together over 40 yrs. They shared a wonderful life of travel, car shows, going for rides, and simply enjoying each other’s company, whether alone or with family and friends.

Though he didn’t have children of his own, he was blessed with Barb’s two children, daughter Jaime and son Matt.  Jaime and Matt shared a special bond with Dan and, with Hospice, selflessly cared for him at home the last 2 months of his life.   Jaime gave him the gift of a granddaugher, Kayley – the apple of his eye!  Dan would just light up seeing her and he would just melt when she would call him “NAN NAN”. Their unique bond was evident in their rides around the neighborhood, sitting on the tailgate of his Chevy Blazer just talking, being silly, and dancing to music.

Dan had a passion for classic cars and hot rods. He also enjoyed sharing beers with friends and family in his backyard gazebo, always suggesting, “How about just one more?”

Known for his friendly personality, Dan made friends everywhere he went. While traveling, he would often run into people he knew and treated them as if they were lifelong friends, ensuring he spent a few minutes catching up with them.

He touched us all with his kind heart and gracious nature . . . a memory we will all cherish!

Visitation at Kutis Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois, Wednesday, December 20, 4-9:00 PM with funeral service Thursday at 11:00 AM. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.

  1. The best person I have ever met. Dan had a heart of gold. I’ve had the fortune to have him as my friend since I was 10 years old I’m now 76.
I loved him like a brother . He will be missed.
RIP Dan. It’s ironic I lost another close friend last year Dan O’Leary, and his favorite saying was
    “Just one more”

  3. I have great memories of Dan being the “big kid” playing with all of my brothers and sisters and cousins in the backyard of whoever’s house where the family was gathered. I remember him laughing and making everything fun. He learned his love for beer from a long Wallhermfechtel tradition that still continues today. Condolences to all of the family with special thoughts for Denise, De-nephew, and Karen who were the first children to put a special sparkle in Dan’s eyes.

  4. I was fortunate to be able to call Dan my friend for the last 20 years. From sharing stories over beers in the back yard or at the beach
he was always able to make me smile or laugh. It seemed wherever we were, be it in a bar here in St. Louis or in Florida he would run into someone he knew and talk to them as if they were his best friend. He will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
To Barb,Matt,Jamie and Kayley, Karen and I send our heartfelt condolences. Rest in peace Danny.

  11. Barb, a love like yours will live on forever. Dan was a wonderful father, husband and friend. I treasure the good times we had hanging out over the last 40 years. Dan never met a stranger and always made his friends feel loved. He lived life out loud and when it was his time he left this world with grace. The loving care that Dan received in his final months from Barb, Jaime and Matt is a testament to the person he was. I’m thinking of you all as you navigate this difficult time. I will always remember your smile Dan.

  16. Bob and I will miss “Danno “
I personally will always cherish the day we took a team effort to get Dan down to The Gazebo!!!! The look on his face if he could trust us but had no choice . He was so happy especially when you went inside “Barb “ to get him a particular hat he really wanted to wear . Dan shared so many stories about your travels and his love for cars . To see the love and care that Barb Jamie and Matt gave to Dan was truly something special .
Dan you will be missed my friend .
