Joyce L Walters was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. She attended Roosevelt High School, graduating in 1963. At the age of 15, Joyce met the love of her life, Bob Walters, in 1960, and the two were married on January 11, 1964. They shared a loving marriage of 61 years, celebrating their 50th anniversary by renewing their vows surrounded by family and friends, a testament to their lifelong devotion to one another.
Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker whose greatest joy came from caring for her family. She was actively involved in her children’s lives, serving on the PTA, attending school and sporting events, and taking on the role of planner and organizer for countless family gatherings and celebrations. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the welcoming spirit that defined her. Joyce was strong-willed and the rock in the family, she was who anyone could go to get advice and support. She was a great problem solver, listener, and a master of organization.
A lifelong learner and lover of history, Joyce had a passion for exploring the world and connecting with people everywhere she went. She was especially fascinated by ancient Egypt, and she fulfilled her dreams of seeing many of the world’s historic sites, including the Great Wall of China, the ruins of Ephesus in Turkey, the pyramids of Egypt, Israel’s sacred landmarks, and even Germany during the historic fall of the Berlin Wall. She loved the beach and ocean taking many trips to the Caribbean and Mexico.
Joyce cherished time with her family, especially playing games like UNO, Mexican Train, and countless others with loved ones. She will be remembered for her kind heart, endless curiosity, and the way she made everyone feel at ease with her engaging conversations and genuine warmth. Above all, Joyce’s greatest pride and joy were her children and grandchildren, whom she loved deeply and unconditionally. Though she is no longer with us, the lessons, laughter, and love she shared will remain in our hearts forever.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Friendship Village Hospice care team for their compassionate care for Joyce. The family welcomes flowers and/or donations to the Pedal The Cause organization Can’t Stop Colin team at https://www.givesignup.org/colinschlereth

Our hearts are broken over the passing of Joyce. But rejoice in knowing that she no longer suffers from heart issues and everything she has gone through the last years. We hold dear to our hearts all the many memories we have from the high school years for Dad, the younger years for me to all our vacations and get togethers,, Christmas’ etc. Mom has her best friend with her in paradise! They are watching over all of us, until we meet again. What a glorious reunion that will be!!
