I met Jessica in the 1990’s at the Harpooner’s Sherlockian group. Around 2012, Jessica suggested a book club that would read mysteries featuring detectives other than Sherlock Holmes. From her suggestion, the Mid-Day Detectives group was born. It met from 2013 until earlier this year.
Jessica was a brilliant, lively person. One of the last things she told the Mid-Day Detectives group was that she was now reading books on how to die well. She certainly accomplished that, facing death with courage and dignity.

I was so bummed to hear about Cousin Jesse. She was like family from all the Kalina family events we were all at together from Louisville to Chicago to St Louis Jess was always there with Alan. She will truly be missed. It was probably a blessing that she passed into the new world since pancreatic cancer is a horrible cancer causing much painful suffering. I’m saying my prayers for Jess, Alan, and Jessica’s family right now.

Jessica was one of a kind, sweet, helpful, and intelligent. She knew what she wanted
and set very high goals for herself. We will miss her very much, and Alan can look
back at the good times with Jessica, and I am so sorry we will not see her smiling
face anymore. At least she is at peace now, and my prayers go out to Alan as
well as Jessica’s family, We will one day meet again, and until then she will be looking
down at all of us…

I am so very sorry for your loss. She was a wonderful person with a huge heart and I always enjoyed our conversations. May her memory be for a blessing!

I knew her death was coming, but the actual fact of it is very hard to take. I knew her through Mensa for a long time. We saw each other only rarely, but every time, it was just picking up where we’d left off the last time. I’ll always remember her trip to New York in February 2016; she was singing with her chorus at Carnegie Hall, and we got to spend a few hours each day for nearly a week together, showing her around my home town, enjoying her concert, and more. She was a very good friend, and I can only imagine her family, those who saw her more regularly, will miss her even more.

I considered Jessica one of my dearest friends. We had worked together for several years while at State Farm Insurance and Monsanto. We managed to stay in touch regularly over the years since then, until only recently due to the pandemic and of course her illness. I will truly miss her kindness, laughter, and caring heart.
My deepest condolences to Alan and to her family.

On behalf of the entire Missouri Choral Society family we extend our heartfelt condolences to all who mourn Jessica’s passing.
She was a longtime member of the Choral Society and was loved by all of us. She brought a beautiful voice and a sweet smile to every rehearsal and every performance. I remember, on the conclusion of several of our concerts, that audience members would frequently ask me, “Who is that soprano with the beautiful red hair? She always has the most expressive countenance and is such a pleasure to watch!” Jessica contributed so much to our chorus, not only with her beautiful voice, but just as much with her friendship which she extended to all of us. Jessica, we love you, we miss you, God bless you. We will join you in due time in the heavenly choir! Until then, Rest In Peace. Soli Deo Gloria!

I knew Jessica when she was living in the Atlanta area in the late seventies and early eighties. She was a wise and compassionate person who appreciated nature and the rythyms of life on the Earth.
