72, died of cardiac arrest on October 6, 2018 in St. Louis, MO at Mercy Hospital South. Jack was ill with cancer last year and recently suffered a series of strokes. He would not have wanted to linger and we are happy he is no longer suffering.
Visitation will be from 2-4 pm on October 13, 2018 at the Affton location of Kutis Funeral Home on Gravois Rd.
Jack was born in St. Louis to Clifford and Ruth Spengemann Fleming on July 20, 1946. He attended St. Epiphany grade school, graduated CBC in 1964 and was a scholarship basketball player at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1968. He primarily worked as a police officer in the City of St. Louis for 30 plus years until a well-deserved retirement.
Jack is survived by his children Renee (Fleming) Gebhart and Scott Fleming (Karin Drown Fleming), and grandchildren Jack Gebhart and Brooke and Loren Fleming, siblings Dianne Sherillo (John Sherillo) and Shawn Fleming (Beverly Fleming), and nieces Adrienne Fleming and Amanda Welker, as well as his children’s mother, Marilyn Derveloy Wagner.
The family of Jack Fleming would like to thank Dr. Russel Won and the dedicated healthcare workers of Mercy Hospital South (formerly St. Anthony’s Medical Center). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Backstoppers.
Jack didn’t know a stranger. His family, friends, and community will miss seeing his tall frame enter a room, his mischievous grin, and the sound of his laughter.
